plastic waterbottle safety
I thought this might be of interest to people who use plastic waterbottles.
"One thing to consider if you buy a plastic bottle is its grade. Look on the bottom of the bottle for a small plastic triangle with a number in the middle. If you see a number 2, 4 or 5, the bottle is safe. If it has some other number, don't use it as a water bottle. Those other plastics can make your water taste like plastic and leach harmful chemicals into your body. "You don't want your water tasting like plastic," Simran says. "If you're tasting plastic, you're ingesting plastic." "
ETA: I was looking for a new one the other day and saw a 7

Re: plastic waterbottle safety
more info...
Plastics are typically classified by one of seven recycling codes, indicating the type of resin used (the code is usually found at the bottom of containers and bottles), as follows:
#1 polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE) Products: Soft drink bottles, medicine containers #2 high density polyethylene (HDPE) Products: Toys, bottles for milk, water, detergent, shampoo, motor oil #3 polyvinyl chloride (V or PVC) Products: Pipe, meat wrap, cooking oil bottles #4 low density polyethylene (LDPE) Products: Wrapping films, grocery bags #5 polypropylene (PP) Products: Syrup bottles, yogurt tubs, diapers #6 polystyrene (PS) Products: Coffee cups, clam-shell take-out containers #7 other (usually polycarbonate) Products: Medical storage containers, some Nalgene water bottles
While plastic food wraps and containers play an important role in protecting us against the dangers of food-born illnesses, recent studies show that when certain plastics come into contact with foods, some questionable chemicals migrate from the packaging to the foods they contain. In addition because of the chemicals used during the manufacturing process, plastic poses threats to our environment and to the health of the workers who produce it.

I use one of those big gallon ones and it says 7 but it doesn't taste like plastic or I wouldn't use it.

Re: plastic waterbottle safety
I know, and I am confused.
I posted it hoping someone could find or knows more info. My original quote was from a show that Oprah had about "being green". I got concerned, because I do drink a lot of water that I bring in my own water bottle.

Re: plastic waterbottle safety
The only thing I had effects from re-using my water bottle was mold that wasn't easily seen. I was feeling really sick and then it dawned on me that I needed a new bottle. I did clean out the bottle everyday but I guess I never got the micro scopic pieces out.
