Re: Knock Off Handbag Parties

to each their own---but i i would never host or attend one. i mean its a FAKE bag. i don't care how much it looks like the original...its still fake.

it reminds me of the episode of SATC when samantha buys the fake Fendi and takes Carrie to the Valley to get, and ultimately Carrie says that while everyone else would think it was real, SHE would know it was fake--and it made her feel cheap.

I just hate fake bags--i'm not a label whore or anything. the only 'designer' bags i own are Coach (and i don't have too many)...but i'd rather pay for the real deal than sport a fakey. but that's just me

Re: Knock Off Handbag Parties

I used to buy them when I was younger. Not anymore. If I cannot afford the real thing, well so be it.

I don't see the difference between that and getting illegal copies of movies, etc...

Everybody needs to make a living. If a bag is $300.00, then that's the price. Being able to afford it is something else. But I do respect the person who created the bag and how much they want for it. That's their livelihood.

I'd go, but it would have to be a really good knock-off because the prices are pretty high for fakes.

I agree....I went to one and bought one.
I'm NOT into designer handbags, now will I EVER pay $200 for a purse, so I dont see anything wrong with having a knockoff bag.

I AM into designer bags, have been since I was 19 years old. I would buy a knock off in a second though as with 2 kids, I can not be buying $300 and $500 bags anymore. I can get the same look I want for $50.

Re: Knock Off Handbag Parties

I'd consider going out of curiosity but I would probably decline.

I would not host one.

They are made in sweatshops. There are articles in some very reliable newspapers explaining this.

I can't stand fake bags and I refuse to ever buy one. If I can't have the real thing then I just won't have one.

Ditto.

so that makes it ok? once the public found out- 15 years ago- she stopped using that factory

besides that fact- and the documented fact that they are made by childern, is horrible conditions- all so the you can pretend to have a Gucci bag???

Tom Ford designed that Gucci bag- it's his idea- how would you feel if someone took your design (aren't you in a creative field) cheapen it and sold it to women who feel the need to carry a "designer" bag but don't want to pay a designer price

just buy a nice bag that you can afford- or save up for a designer one- I maybe get 1 or 2 designer ones a year and off set my cost buy selling ones I no longer like on ebay- I would rather do that ever buy a fake

IMO, you can't be that into designer bags or else you would be offended by the thought of carrying a fake.

ITA- I was going to say the same thing

fakes- cheapen the brand- and no one that was into designer bags would do anything to cheapen the brand

As an intellectual property lawyer, NO, I'd never host or go to one.

And personally, I actually believe that people have a right to their intellectual property and their designs.

same for me - too hypocritical for me to have - i am very careful to have all legal music now which my DH hates that rule - to me same premise

Same here. I buy a lot of cd singles off of Ebay and it drives me insane when the CD turns out to be pirated.

I just don't believe in knock offs

they use child labor to make them

they steal someone's design that they worked hard on

Exactly! ITA

It's also really tacky. If people honestly believe that you cannot tell the difference btwn a real one and a fake, they are nutty. You can tell by the color of the stitching and the pattern. Coach would not sell a signature C bag without a complete C on it.

Actually, if you research it you can find out about your favorite companies and how they have their goods made. Kathy Lee's situation was an OUTRAGE at the time and I do not see how it justifies continuing to exploit workers. There are probably people on this site who are descendents or relatives of people who worked in horrid conditions right here in NY, before the laws were changed.

Why do you care so much that many of us won't spend our hard earned money on fakes? I don't care if all of my friends do or if these parties draw 200 people. It's not my style.

I would never host one, but not so much because it's illegal and I'm scared of getting caught - just because I don't care to host one.

Would I attend one? Probably not. I have no interest in buying knock off bags.

I just wouldn't have one and wouldn't go to one...I'm not interested in knockoffs.

And, that's not to say that every bag I own cost $2000...but, if I can't have the real thing, I don't want it.

I agree. I went to one years ago and barerly used it more than once. I felt stupid carrying something a person could figure out is fake.

I just wanted to toss out there that real Coaches and Dooneys are now made in China, Singapore, etc.

Or, by designer are we referring to the other brands like Gucci, Prada, etc?

I think most are referring to Premier Designers, like Gucci, LV, YSL, Balenciaga, Chloe, Hermes, Chanel, etc..

by designer I mean Gucci, Prada etc

not all thing made in china at made in sweatshops

i used to work for macy's- and worked on there private lable- all of the facotries we used MUST be approved and inspected for everything from the number of bathrooms, lights, overtime being paid etc.

I am sure coach and dooney and burke and other people producing in China do the same things- they do not want to end on the evening news

however- fake bags are not regulated-
