Knock Off Handbag Parties

I ask this because on another board I am on they think it is like murder to have a handbag party. While I know it is against the law, I would not be afraid to host one or go to one.

I would never have one and it's not just because of the legal ramifications. I just find them tacky.

Re: Knock Off Handbag Parties

I just wouldn't have one and wouldn't go to one...I'm not interested in knockoffs.

And, that's not to say that every bag I own cost $2000...but, if I can't have the real thing, I don't want it.

I can't stand fake bags and I refuse to ever buy one. If I can't have the real thing then I just won't have one.

I agree! I have been to the parties, and I just can't bring myself to buy a fake pocket book.

I agree with Chatham and Beth. I would never host one.

I went to one of these parties a few yrs ago and honestly, the prices were insane for the fake stuff. I saw a Coach bag for $150. the real one would have been $300 Chat Icon it was so cheaply made and felt like plastic. Chat Icon

I would not host or attend. I think those bags are made like garbage..I would just save my money until I could afford the real thing.

Re: Knock Off Handbag Parties

It's funny that there are so many people who say they wouldn't have a party or even go to one but one of the women I know had to hire 6 more girls to help her out as she is booked every week!

people's answers on here is not an indication that no one is interested. clearly there is an interest.

Same here. Besides, my eventual career plan might involve being an in-house attorney for a well-known handbag designer. I don't think they'd view my participation in a handbag party too kindly.

I think I remember hearing a story about someone who got fired from her job because she came into a meeting with a client (a designer) carrying a knock-off handbag from another designer. Might just be an urban myth though.

Probably just an urban myth. Who is going to be able to tell it is a fake? The men in the meeting-Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Knock Off Handbag Parties

ok-Ii will go against the grain here...I like them..I have seen one women who had them where I could never tell the difference and the quality was exceptional.
I did not know children make them***
I have never bought one but have def thought of having a party and def buying them.
If I knew they def were not made by kids or slave laborers I have no problem with it.
Ethical probably not.
I would rather have a imitation and not worry about ruining it.

Re: Knock Off Handbag Parties

I'd go, but it would have to be a really good knock-off because the prices are pretty high for fakes.

I take it that the members who voted "Innocent Fun" don't know about the link to terrorist funding.

Doesn't anybody question where the money is going?

Re: Knock Off Handbag Parties

I would not host a party since I am a chicken. I have been to a few partys and its crazy the amount of woman who show up at them. They go crazy over bags. I bought 1 in the past. I am pickey and I must really like the bag to buy it. I find that I do better at macys and kohls sales with nicer bags. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

As an intellectual property lawyer, NO, I'd never host or go to one.

And personally, I actually believe that people have a right to their intellectual property and their designs.
