HELP-- Need Pediatrician RECO!!!
My DD will be 4 weeks on Wed. I'm having a really hard time with BF & have decided to start supplementing with formula. I called the Dr. to find out how I should go about it & what formula she recommends. They told me that they would like me to hold off on supplementing until they can check on DD weight. I explained that my next appointment wasn't for 3.5 weeks & I am really having a hard time with BF so I would like to come sooner so I can get started supplementing & slowly wean her.They told me they had no appontments available until then. I was really upset & I am extremely emotional these past few weeks so I got off the phone & started to cry. My DH can't stand that I am so upset. He calls them back & explains that is too long to wait, the girl tells him there are no appointments available for 3 weeks & she doesn't think insurance will cover it anyway because only coming in to have baby weighed. DH says no we are coming in because having problems with BF & are concerned about feedings & you said we have to wait until baby is weighed. So we got off the phone saying well I guess I have to find another pediatrician then. About 15 minutes later the phone rings & its the Dr. office saying they can double book me for this Friday but there will be a wait. IS THIS NORMAL??? Please let me know if I am crazy but I thought when I call the Dr. they would try & be a little understanding & supportive. Any feedback really appreciated.

Being a new mom is hard enough by itself! You definitely ned a Ped. who will support you and listen to your concerns.

Um, no it's not normal. What pediatrician can't find an appointment for a weight check within a day or two? I have literally never had a problem getting an appointment at my ped.
I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. Those first few weeks are so trying, you don't need the added pressure and no soutions from the doctor!
Where are you located? I would recommend mine but only if you're nearby.

definitely not normal, I could go to my ped's office for a weight check anytime... Mine is in Plainview, too far from you, hopefully someone here has a good reco for you

I wish I could recommend my ped but she is in LA. I would switch immediately. My doc has ALWAYS seen us asap with any concern that needs her assistance. I can't believe he/she isn't more helpful. Breastfeeding is hard and she should be more supportive.

I live in Medford. I use Mid Suffolk Pediatrics who is in Hauppauge. We see Dr. Stein. A little bit of a hike but they are very good. My brother uses Dr. Rivera who is located on Woodside Ave in Medford. They seem to really like him. Hope this helps.

Ugh, I left my first ped. for not being any help at all, and actually causing me more stress. I'm in Holbrook and love my pediatrician. His name is Fernando Ordonez and his number is 588-0400. He is the only dr. there and when I call, he tells me to come in right away. I've never waited, and he takes all of my concerns seriously. You absolutely need a dr. you feel you can call about anything, ESPECIALLY feeding issues. You might also try calling a lactation consultant if you want to continue breastfeeding. Hang in there!

not normal!! Whenever I call for a problem they see me usually within an hour or two and I don't even wait when I get there. Sorry though my ped is in East Meadow. Hang in there

thats terrible
DD had some issues in the first weeks of life we actually had 2 appts JUST TO HAVE A WEIGHT CHECK to make sure she was gaining and good thing because she was actually losing for a little bit
I wish I could reccommend someone but I live in Nassau

This is who we use. Ella is 6 weeks and we have been having alot of problems with her Reflux. Whenever we call for an appointment they take us right away and we never have to wait ong.

I went to a course he gave and thought he was fantastic!! I already had my pediatrician picked and I love them so much. I love that they are moms and Dr's. The are about 15 mins from Patchogue off of the LIE on Commack Rd--Commack Pediatric Partners.

I work at a ped's office, and I have NEVER heard of anything so crazy!! We would have brought you in that very same day, no questions asked!! I would switch immediately!!

It's definitely not normal. I would switch pediatricians.
There is no reason they can't give you supplementing information over the phone or that they can't have you bring her in for a weight check within a day.
Switch. You will be so much happier.

My ped. has a policy of taking all newborns right away. You can come right in and they will make room for you. (They even have a seperate waitingroom for newborns.) I would definately switch.
