regular cheese- I gave at 7-8 months-one of her fav's

crackers-I gave at 7-8months

teething biscuits-I gave at 7-8 months

bread-i gave at 7-8months

pastina-sson as can handle thicker, chunky soft foods

farina-not sure about that one

ice cream-we give tastes now-I'm sure it's okay after 12 months.

puffs-As soon as can mash things with jaw- I gave at 8 months

I started solids at 6-6.5 months though.

They are right with the baby food section, usually where the puffs/graduates are, on the top shelf of most stores.

They are called Biter BiscuitsChat Icon

I have used both the beechnut and gerber. I prefer the gerber biter biscuits since they come individually wrapped and a great for throwing in a diaper bag!

I wonder if that makes a difference. DS started solids at 4 months and has already made his way through all of the Stage 1 fruits and veggies.
I asked my Dr. about all of these foods, but I wanted to see what you ladies did. This is what he said...

yogurt-6 months
cottage cheese-6 months
regular cheese- I forgot to ask about this one
crackers- "when he has teeth"
teething biscuits-6 months
bread-6 months
pastina-6 months
farina-forgot to ask this
ice cream-tastes at 6 months, but stick to vanilla for a while
puffs- 8 months

Re: when can/did you start feeding DC...

I was 2 months behind you in starting, it might make a difference in what he can handle.

I say go with what you DS can handle. My DD wasn't picking food up and actually putting it in her mouth til about 9-10 months old. She just didn't "get" what to do with anything unless we fed it to her before that.

Go with your mommy gut, if you think he can handle it, go for it. All babies develop motor skills and hit milestones differently.

Personally i wasn't rushing anything, I am soo afraid of choking.

I don't go by books, but I started to feed Noah all those things at 6 months...I did lots of purees and meaty tomato sauce dishes, he had yogrt a lot. I just used my common sense with what he could masticate and swallow, what might make him gag etc.

eta...I do believe that in order for babies to learn how to move food to the back of their mouth, then into their throats to swallow, there is going to be a little bit of gagging. Just use your common sense!!

Re: when can/did you start feeding DC...

the girls had their 6th month ped appt yesterday, and their ped told me, I can start yogurt (yobaby), meat, and zwieback teething toasts. I thought the yogurt was a bit early. But they started solids at 4 months, so I guess this is right for them.

Luca is almost 6 months and he just pooped his first tooth. After his 6 month appt. I will probably start many of the foods I mentioned and I will probably get teething biscuits the nest time I go food shopping.

Re: when can/did you start feeding DC...

Be very careful with the teething biscuits. The babies suck and chew on them and big pieces break off into their mouth. I think they are a choking hazard at 6-12 months. Unless you are sitting and watching baby eat them, I would stay away from them. At least that was my experience with Jack.

Re: when can/did you start feeding DC...

yogurt - 6 months (loves it!)

cottage cheese - never had it (I don't like it, so I don't have it around)

regular cheese - 7 months

teething biscuits/toasts - 6/7 months (only if she's in her hair chair - they're MESSY)

bread - 6/7 months

pastina - 7 months

ice cream - she's had tastes of it

puffs - 7 months

Once she started solids, I pretty much let her try (almost) anything.

yogurt----6 months
cottage cheese
regular cheese
crackers
teething biscuits-----6 months
bread
pastina
farina
ice cream
puffs---- 6 months

Other than those 3 things, I have not given DS anything else yet.
They did not tell me to, and I did not think to ask at my last visit.

They did tell me I can start eggs at 7 months, which I have done.
