I joked with my mom that that is the only area we could afford and she practically choked on her coffee. Wyandanch is a sad area that needs help. Don't even consider it Chat Icon

Re: $150,000 for houses

I would stay away if I were you, very high crime levels in Wyandanch...the schools are not good either.
There is a reason the houses are so cheap.

If you go on MLSLI.com you will be able to view information regarding the schools. Also, I would call the precinct. It is a very depressed area with high crime.

The schools wer elike in the 10th percentile when I checked the comparisons. They had a very very low gradutaion rate.

My DH is not from NY, and he discovered Wyandanch when we were thinking about buying on LI. I had to explain to him that it wasn't the greatest area.

I won't be surprised if we start to see some gentrification in areas like that though, with the prices being what they are.

Location! there was a house that almost completely burnt down in Bellemore, was on the market a few months ago, and they were asking in the 370Ks, and it was all boarded up. RE is all about location. which is why i can understand (and i use that term lightly) some prices being what they are.... but for other, like in New Cassel, hempstead, etc... and theyre asking high 300's to 400's- to me, that is completely ridiculous. In that sense youre not paying for location, schools, safety, etc... so i have no idea how they can ask those prices Chat Icon
