Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
i went to my GYN yesterday for an annual and I told him that my DH and I wanted to start TTC in about 6 months. At that time, I will be 32. He told me that it could take anywhere from a year to two years because of my age. This sounds way longer than anything that I have read. I don't have many friends with kids yet, so I was wondering if those of you who are over 30 wouldnt mind sharing how long you were actively trying before you conceived. Thank you so much in advance and i hope this poll isnt totally inappropriate.

I am 32 started trying last year. I got pregnant very easily but miscarried. If it takes over 1 yr(honestly longer than 6-8 mos) there is probably an issue.

I am so sorry to hear that you miscarried....
My doctor told me if it takes more than 6 months he would start to run tests, He said some doctors make you wait a year?

Re: Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
My best friend, who was on the pill and oviously not trying, got pregnant - at 34 (she'll be 35 when she delivers).
I have 3 SIL's who conceived without issue, over 30, and 2 of them were 40+.
Everyone's different. It's great that your Dr will run tests if you don't see results in 6 months.

Re: Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
I always knew I had issues so we tried "naturally" for 6 months but because I knew I was going to have difficulty I did not hesitate to see an RE (my mom had my issue as well and it took her 6 years to naturally conceive me but she was also 6 years younger when she did).
After 11 months, 4 failed IUI's, we moved onto IVF and got pregnant on the first round.
Total 17 months.

Re: Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
I was 34 when I conceived on my honeymoon. DH was 40 and thought we would get pregnant as soon as we started trying (the plan was the honeymoon). I told him not too get too eager because it may take longer because of our age. He was right, we got pregnant as soon as we started trying. I was shocked .

Re: Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
I was 32 when I conceived - I have no idea how long it took, because we weren't trying - I only remember one night that we had unprotected sex, so I would say it didn't take too long at all.... I turned 33 in November.

Re: Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
There are so many Dr.'s and people who will tell you things that might scare you. Don't let them!!!
I was married before and tried to get PG and didn't. Got divorced and though OMG, life as I know it will never work out. Well, as fate would have it-
I just turned 37 last week, but I'm 11 weeks pregnant. I wasn't trying and scared it was going to take a while since I was trying previously. I guess that just wasn't meant to be.
(We're getting married next month and plan on having another child too!)
Best of luck to you!!!

Re: Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
It took us one month to conceive, and I honestly thought it would take us longer, but not because of age (I was 33 at the time) but because of some medical issues that I had in the past. I felt very fortunate that we did conceive much sooner than expected.
I'm not sure where your doctor is doing his/her research, but I have never heard of such a thing, at least not at the age of 32. I have read that it can take longer to conceive later on in your 30's, but there are so many factors to take into consideration.
Everyone's body is different so it's really impossible to predict. It took my mother almost 2 years to conceive me and she was in her twenties at the time. So many times you just don't know until you try.

Re: Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
I wouldn't pay too much heed - I have PCOS and was told I was getting old and that I would never get pregnant on my own - I am 31. We charted, used OPK's and BD every day for most of the month - and we hit it on the first month of trying. I think until you start trying one just really never knows.

I am 37. I got PG on the 2nd month we tried.
I was off the BCP 2.5 years prior to TTC though.

Re: Can I ask you all a question to the over 30 crowd?
I just turned 33 and have been trying for 5 months. I wish we started earlier. I have not been charting or temping, just using OPK's. My cycle still is still not normal from coming off the pill...
