Could this be a seizure? *UPDATE: Ped called back*

DS has had 3 episodes of shaking/trembling (very similar to a seizure but I'm scared to use that word) while I am BF him in the past week. I brought it up to his doctor on Monday and he just told me that he could have been choking and babies get very quet and shake when they are choking. Ok, fine. Now this has happened 2x since, once earlier today. He was eating and falling asleep when this happened and it is really scaring me. When it happened today, I tried to hold his little body to stop him from shaking but it went on for just about 15-20 seconds or so (longest 15-20 seconds of my life). When it stopped he just continued to sleep... it doesn't wake him up or anything. I left a message for his doctor and am waiting for him to call back. Has this happened to anyone? Could this be a seizure?

*Update*
Ped just called back and referred us to a Neurologist. He says that it could be nothing, but wants to rule everything out.

Could it maybe just be from him being in that middle state of awake/asleep?

Sometimes when Em is just falling asleep her eyes will stay open and she does this weird breathing thing. It only last a few seconds but it is scary.

I hope the dr calls back soon

I would be worried too. Chances are it is totally normal but I am sure you are like me and wont feel better until the dr confirms that all is ok. Good luck and dont panic

I have no idea/ advice but I hope he is ok! Kids do very weird things sometimes. Brady had his fair share of really scary/odd things as well that ended up being normal. I hope that is the case

Let us know what happens with the Dr.

ETA: Brady also does a weird shake thing every now and then. Its only for a few seconds, but it is usually when he is awake and playing. His dr. was not concerned with it at all.

Is like he is shivering, but you know hes not cold? This happens to DS ALL the time when he is waking up and still does it RIGHT after he wakes up when I am changing is diaper.

We actually ran DD (who is 2 weeks old) to the ped this past week for a similar issue. DD has twitches but in her sleep. THey had gotten worse and consistent where DH and I got very scared. Doc was very reassuring and said its night twitches or spasms. It happens in between dozing off and deep sleep OR when they are coming our of a deep sleep. DD still does it but not when she is awake. Doc said bc it is happening while she is asleep there seems to be nothing to worry about ( i hope). I hope you DC is experiencing a similar situation. Hope this helps.

If at all possible, I would try and video tape it so you can show your ped exactly what is happening.

Dd use to shake when she was very small for a few seconds sometimes it was like twitching and sometimes more like shaking..dh has had 2 grandmal seizures in the past 2 years so I was very frightened that something was wrong. She just stopped doing it. It's probably nothing but if it happens again take her into see the ped.

DD would always do this weird shiver thing when she was falling asleep - even now at 9 months she does a twitch/shiver whenever I take off her shirt -like AS I am taking it off! They do strange things sometimes their little systems aren't fully developed yet!

I would just run it by a doctor again to be sure!

It's really helping to hear that many of your LOs have experienced something similar! The fact that he doesn't have control of his body when this happens is so crazy. I hope it's nothing!

DS did this about 5 times. I'd be holding him and he's head would begin to feel like it was vibrating. It happened when he was exhausted. Drs. said it was due to his nervous system being immature and shutting down to sleep and that he'd grow out of it - which he did. He hasn't done it since he was about 6 months old. that being said - there's no harm in going to a specialist to get their opinion.

Dd used to do something similar but it turned out to be a shiver. To this day she sometimes shivers right before she starts to pee and continues until she is done peeing. It is the weirdest thing.

atleast now you will know for sure if it's something to be concerned about or if it's just a normal thing for your DS. Just an FYI, and i'm sure you will probably due this anyways, but when you call up to schedule the appointment, stress how important it is to get him in there soon and if they can't have your ped call up to get you a sooner appointment. We've been through soo many specialists lately and they all seem to have waitlists, but somehow they seem to fit you in when you and/or your ped is persistant.

I have posted in the past that when DS2 was an infant he did a weird shaking/trembling this with his head and upper body when drinking a bottle and falling asleep. It happened several times. We followed up with a neurologist and had to go for an EEG to rule out infantile spasms. Fortunately it was not.
