Cave crickets or camel crickets
Whatever you call them. I need help! They are coming in the house and I am losing my mind! We had a problem when we first moved here but the owners before us didn't rake any leaves away from the house and had a lot of problems inside that we've since fixed. It's been 6 years but now they are coming in again! We have a back deck and at night it is infested with babies. I'm assuming they might be coming in under my back door. Which does need To be replaced, but I can't believe they can fit. Dh went around and tried to find any holes in the closets and around the doors to fill today, but I just went into the bathroom and one huge one was jumping around my feet!! Ugh! Anyone else have a problem? What did you do? I have backyard chickens, a dog, two kids and I'm pregnant so the last thing I want around my house is pesticides. We also have central air so it's not like it's humid in here. Help!

Those things are disgusting. They always scare me when they jump up. Ugh!! We had them in our basement a few years back. Once in a while we'll get them around this time of year, but not as bad when we first moved in. I set up some glue traps and it seems to work, but you have to change them frequently bc I heard they eat each other. Gross!

They do! Just when you thought they couldn't be more disgusting! I've heard the glue traps work well also. I feel like they are everywhere this year.

We get them around this time of the year too. I just kill them as I see them. I’ve found that if I swat them from behind, I get them on the first shot. Maybe they can’t see behind them? Lol

I had a huge issue in my basment when I moved in. I never heard or saw them until then.
This is what you need to do. I was able to get rid of them asap: -run the dehum in your basement all the time -set up glue traps all over the basement in corner, near the garage doors, etc -sprinkle NIBAN all over the perimeter of your home. You can get it on amazon. -make sure there are no piles of debris, leaves, etc on your property
If you do that each fall right before it starts to get cold you will be fine.
EDIT: just saw you said no pesticides so I am not sure about the NIBAN. Just load up on glue traps then.

Diatomaceous Earth is a non-toxic powder that you can sprinkle in doorways and window frames. It is a soft porous rock that when crumbled feels like pumice. What it does is when anything crawls thru it, like ants or beetles, the DE scratches at their shell and bodies and it eventually kills them.

LOL true you cannot get near them to kill them. We would spray ant spray on them to slow them down then hit them with a fly swatter.

Thanks I'll try the glue traps. We don't have a basement so this is on our first floor ugh! I'm gonna check the leaves today, but I think it has something to do with our deck next to the back door.

I have that too! My chickens use it in their dust bath. I didn't even think of it! Thanks I'll try it too.

It could be the deck. We clogged up every single small hole we could fine. The Niban and glue traps brought a quick end to it.
Tonight I am sure they will look for a place to hide, it's going to be cold.

Another thing, do not leave any shoes, work boots, etc outside ever. They can hop in there and then come into your living quarters.

Lol I use a shoe and hit them hard. I hate the cleanup part though.

Re: Cave crickets or camel crickets
I was told October is "their" month. That is probably why you are seeing so many of them.
But yes, definitely get those leaves away from the door. They live in that crap.
Also, don't waste your time getting glue traps at HD or Lowes. You have to go to Ace and get the yellow ones. They work like a charm. There are 4 in a box. They work really good. I'll try to post a pic of the box. Hope it posts......

I know you said you didn't want chemicals, but we just moved and had a major problem the first 2 nights. On the 3rd day I sprayed Ortho Home Defense around the outside of the house, the inside of the house (basement and 1st floor only) and the garage. We haven't had another one since.
