New Orleans!
DH and I will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary this spring. He has been lobbying to leave the kids with my parents for a few days and go to New Orleans.
Is 3 nights a long enough trip to see the city?
Any hotel recommendations?
We're both in education and have to go during a school break. Should we go in February or April?
What should be absolutely do/see? Do we need a car?
HELP!!! Thank you in advance.

New Orleans!
3 nights is plenty.
I'd go in February. It will be better weather and less humid.
Def don't need a car.
We did the plantation tours. Oak alley and Laura. Very interesting. Walked magazine street. Did the French quarter. Cafe du monde for beignets. Pat o Brian for hurricanes. Lots of good dinners at emerils restaurants.
We stayed at the ritz Carlton.

New Orleans!
Was just there for the first time last week. I loved it! We stayed at the Roosevelt/Waldorf Astoria, which was very nice and a great location.
We were there for 3 nights (plus a half day) - we had a family event in Biloxi, MS, (about 1 1/2 hrs away), so went to NOLA first and then had a few hours back in NOLA before our flight home. I wish we had more time, but we did get to see and do a lot. Here's what we did:
Tues (landed and checked into hotel by 1:00 pm) Lunch at Domenica's (in our hotel) Walked around the French Quarter Happy hour oysters and drinks at Bourbon Street Oyster House BAck to hotel to shower/change Drinks and music at Maison Bourbon
Wednesday St. Louis Cemetery Tour #1 Lunch at Eat NOLA - really good! Swamp/bayou tour with Pearl River Eco Tour Hotel to shower and change Dinner at GW Fins - A MUST!, it was great! Snug Harbor (Frenchman Street) for jazz show
Thursday Cafe Beignet for breakfast (not the famous place for beignets) Green line trolley to Garden District (did self-guided walking tour) Cafe Dumond for beignets - (THE famous place for beignets) Walk around riverfront area Hotel to shower/change Dinner at Mr. B's Bistro (also really good!) Drinks and music at the Carousel Bar (Hotel Monteleone)
Friday morning - hotel pool and then left for Biloxi
Returned to NOLA Sunday morning and went to the WWII Museum before heading back to the airport
We had a car, but didn't use it the whole time we were in NOLA - only used it to go to/from Biloxi
The swamp tour was much more interesting than expected - I really enjoyed it. The cemetery tour was also really interesting. I would have liked to have done a plantation tour and the River boat on the Mississippi - I think those are the only "biggies" that we didn't get to do that I was hoping to do

Re: New Orleans!
I was there for a day and a half celebrating 1 yr dating with my now husband. NOLA is my fav city in the country!
Things we did: Stayed Hotel Le Merais Willie Mae’s Scotch House- fried chickenand waffles and fried okra. get there EARLY! 10:30 to avoid a 2 hour wait.
French Market St Louis Cathedral & Jackson Square Commander’s Palace - chefs tasting menu! best meal i ever had! its like a zillion QUALITY courses . request to sit outside! its so romantical! lol
Frenchman Street Cafe Du Monde - always a line, i take the beignets to-go.
Harrah’s Casino- because I love slots. you can skip it. but its also a cheap way to get drunk since you get free drinks while you play, even penny slots lol.
Things we’ll do next time: Galatoire’s Herbsaint Cochon Preservation Hall Streetcar to St Louis Cemetery #1

Re: New Orleans!
3 nights is a good amount of time.
I've stayed at Waldorf & Sheraton. I didn't like the Sheraton. Waldorf was gorgeous.
Don't bring a car... you can walk it all easily.
Restaurants are all great. Best memories was a hole in the wall place with rabbit stew... but they closed. I really though GW fins was excellent. Bouchon was OK... not as great as the hype. The Emeril place was good. The Commander place we went to twice. Great atmosphere (and worth going for that alone), but food was like a wedding place.
Sights to see depend on your interest... I did walking tours including cemetery, did a bayou boat alligator tour, went to the aquarium (quite nice), and did a ghost tour (way more fun than I thought it would be). I really enjoyed the dueling piano bar! I'd include cafe Du Monde as a sight to see and get there early in the AM to be able to sit and hang around.
I went twice in October and once it was really cold... so I'd go when warner.

New Orleans!
Just at an FYI, we went to Cafe Dumond in the middle of the day for "lunch" - walked right in, no wait at all. Everyone goes in the morning and the lines are crazy. If you can go later in the day for lunch or snack, you probably won't have to wait

Re: New Orleans!
Plenty of time. I absolutely loved Nola! We didn't stay in a hotel, but rather rented a home in the Marigny Bywater district. It was so much better IMO. We were walking distance to the French Quarter, Frenchman Street (alllll the music and street art!), Bourbon Street, everything. We lived like locals and it was fantastic.
ETA: Do one of the swamp tours! It was incredible!
