Feedback about direct sales.
I would love some feedback to help me launch and promote a business that I really believe in.
I am looking for honest and general opinions. Some examples are:
If it is a product or service your are interested in, what makes you take the leap to try it?
What attracts you in social media posts?
What turns you off?
And any other tidbits that will help!

Feedback about direct sales.
I'm glad you asked this, I am curious about the responses as well.
For me, I love seeing the before and after pictures (if applicable), as long as they seem legitimate.
Ideas for something or using something outside the box. Does this or will this do something for me that would make me happy or solve an issue I have.
For the most part, I will only try products or services from someone I know personally and trust their opinion.
I actually like when they have a short video demonstrating something.
What turns me off is if they are pushy. If you are really passionate about it, I don't mind you telling me. But give me time to think about it for myself and make up my mind. I am a busy person and I don't always have the time to research or make a decision right then.

It depends on the product or service. I tried R&F products because I was seeing it everywhere which prompted me to ask friends if they've tried it and what their results were. I recently purchased (and quickly returned) the head kandy 2.0 hair brush straightener. I was seeing tutorials all over social media and I have been looking for an easier way to straighten my hair.
What attracts you in social media posts?
Video tutorials. If it's just a bunch of words, I usually scroll right by. But I'll click on a video to see what they are doing with the product and how it is supposed to work.
What turns you off?
Pushy sales. If I have a small interest in something and dare to ask, I'll get bombarded with PMs and tags. If I realize the product doesn't work for me, I will automatically be told why and if I just tried "this other product" along with what I have already, I'll get the results I wanted .. constant up selling
And any other tidbits that will help!
As with anything with direct sales, if you really believe in it and you KNOW anyone who purchases/follows/etc will benefit - then go for it. If someone decides it isn't for them, back off. Ask them to keep you in mind if they hear of someone looking for what you are selling. And just be honest. The woman I bought R&F from was very cool when I told her the product just wasn't doing what I had hoped. She asked a few questions, I answered honestly and she was apologetic and sent me a refund (which I didn't ask for)
Customer service goes a long way in sales.

I have a knock of it that was like $20 on ebay. It doesn't make my hear stick straight, but it definitely makes it smoother and less frizzy.

It straightened it but it was poofy. It was hard to get the root and when it was done, I needed to use mt flat iron to thin it out.
I have very curly fine hair. I can blow it out in 25 minutes perfectly. After watching the tutorials on FB, I thought it would be perfect. Nope.
If you try it, make sure you can return it. I returned it the next day.

If I can't buy it on Prime, I really have no use for it.

IMO the direct sales model is antiquated and dates back to the days when people had to sell Avon and Encyclopedias door to door.
In this day and age there really is no need for it.

Everything is soooo overpriced and in today's completely saturated market of cosmetics, diet alternatives, jewelry, clothing, etc....I can find anything comparable at a much more affordable price.

I kinda agree. I feel like direct sales now pushes more of the "sales" part then the product. I have supported a few friends here and there, but during the presentation it feels like 90% of it is trying to get you to "join their team."
A few I did like was Pampered Chef bc you can go and get something affordable. Plus, I do like a lot of the products.
I like Younique and have bought a mascara from a friend.
I want to have fun at a night out for a friend. Let me see what it can do...

Well if you are asking what turns me off, direct sales in general turn me off. There is nothing I would ever really buy. I can get better products and cheaper from any brick & mortar store, let alone what I can get from Amazon. The only product that I would maybe be interested in is an old school tupperware party! All direct sales are so EXTREMELY overpriced. then 5 years later, product doesn't even exist anymore.

Things that would encourage me to try a product:
- if the person selling is a friend and they are starting out, I'd be inclined to go to their house for a get-together where I could sample the items (i.e., food or cosmetics) or see what the quality of a product it (i.e., bags, clothing or jewelry) I don't really like being invited to parties like that BUT I would go to one that is thrown by a friend who is a company rep. My friend does R&F and also happens to be a great cook. She finds that inviting 2-3 people to her house for a cooking lesson and also telling them about R&F has been a successful way to build clientele -- they DO know in advance that she's going to pitch R&F.
- social media posts that are written in the person's voice! It irks me when people just copy-and-paste little blurbs. I know that's not what they sound like in their non-marketing posts. Keep it real! Be creative!
- products that have a good return policy. These things are often priced higher than similar items in stores so they should come with a good policy.
Things that turn me off:
- Stuff that seems like a cult. Like those Mormon leggings. I forget the name? But whatever, the posts about them made me hide people so fast. Everyone was selling it, people invited me to online sales all the time, and I'm like "what part of me ever said to people PLEASE YES KRIS SEEMS LIKE THE PERSON WHO WOULD WEAR THIS"
- Social media posts every single day. Open a separate account for this stuff and ask people to follow it. This way, you're still YOU as a presence on social media via your own account, and you have this business as an aspect of your life. Once people seem to be 100% MLM business on their own personal page, it turns people off.
- Offer something new. Seems like whatever you've found is a unique, new concept so get ahead of the masses!

I agree too.
I hate direct sales in general. I usually stop hanging out with friends that sell things. It's just annoying when you're talking to a "friend" and they are just waiting for the opportunity to pitch a product.
I have a friend that sells for a weight loss/fitness company. I feel like I can't complain about anything (or even comment that I'm tired) without her suggesting a product. I would be willing to try some of the products if they were actually natural or organic. When the ingredients list is a bunch of chemicals I can't pronounce, it's not something I need to feel healthier.
