would it be tacky??
... maybe the fact that i'm asking the question, i already know the answer... but i'll put it to you, anyway. i really do love when we talk about these things
i'm having a Favorite Things Party later this month. as part of the activities, we'll be voting on the best of the favorites and the winners will get a "prize."
would it be rude, tacky, and/or would i look like a major cheapo if the prize was a $5 gift card from Target... the ones they give you when you buy X product and/or spend $YY?

I'd say yes.
I would probably buy a $10 bottle of wine or if you want to stick to $5 grab a Starbucks GC.

I don't think think it's tacky, it's a gift card. If you want you can use it in Target and buy another gift card, Starbucks for example.

Re: would it be tacky??
I would say yes, I personally would make the prize cover the cost of the items they brought to the party based on the predetermined budget.
That said, its not that big of a deal on the "tacky scale" (like a 1 on a scale of 1-10) and if I was attending, its not like Id balk at it or judge you. Just saying what I would do.

I agree. The prize should be at least same cost or more of the items you asked guests to bring. I would do at least a 10 dollar gift card in this case.

Re: would it be tacky??
I wouldn't do it. I would just buy something else I needed for target that was $5 worth and just repurchase the $5 gift card. Only because the gift card you get is the paper one

i think the prize should cover the cost of the items brought to the party. So if its $5 and everyone has to bring 3 then id make the prize $15
