40th birthday list - help
For DH's 40th we are having an adults only at the house. We have a pool and deck. Planning on about 30 - 40 friends over.
Thoughts on food. DH doesn't want to overdue it with the food bc he wants everyone to mostly drink. Most of our friends are in the neighborhood and walking over. Our kids are sleeping at the grandparents. 
chips and dips
veggie platter
tray of hot pretzels with dips
mini hotdogs
maybe fried ravioli
moz sticks
We are thinking of going with the Italian deli we use a lot for maybe wraps or ordering a tray from Costco. Thoughts? We never did a tray from Costco so wanted reviews
Either cake or cupcakes. ALso trying to figure that one out.
Lots of different beers since it's a beer themed party, vodkas, different juices for mixing, rum, white and red wine,
Any other ideas? We are setting up tables for some flip cup and beer pong (some guests are from my shore house days so that's what we did back in the day), have the pool and Jacuzzi open and hiring someone to warm up the foods, clean up and bring some drinks if needed
Not going crazy with decorations. Banner and maybe something else.
Any other ideas?
ETA - I also got him a funny 40th shirt

I would add a big hero and sides at the very least.
You say you want people to mostly drink , but some people, like me, can't drink without eating throughout the night or I will get very sick.
I can't drink like I did when I was 21 anymore

I think you need more food too. What time is party?? Are people going to assume that you will have lunch or dinner??

Yup - one of the most "memorable" parties I ever went to was a 7:00 on a Sat night and there was almost no food - just apps, and not a lot of those either. Everyone was kind of like, "uh when is dinner being served???" Doesn't have to be crazy amounts of food, but at least something a bit more substantial

We went to one like this once. It was a housewarming and there was like NO food. Maybe a cracker here or there.

I def think you need more food. You need to server them dinner (assuming the party is at night if its day then lunch)
I am thinking people are going to over eat and not drink. IMO if they are going to drink they are going to drink no matter how much food they might eat.

If you have the party late - starting at 8 - and say - drinks & apps you are ok - if you have it any earlier people will need a more substantial meal.

I just gave my husband a 40thbday. We have the kona ice truck come. Adults loved more than the kids and I think they might do boozy Ices.. might be worth a try.

try stop and shop catering. I got alot of food for a block party and they did a great job. I got two 3-ft heros, a boneless wing platter, cupcakes, a veggie tray and a fruit tray for around $150-175

I think you need heroes or wings or something. You should absolutely specify that this is an apps and drinks party or you will upset your friends. People don't drink like when they were 21.

Pizza is nice and filling for a lot of drinking; so are garlic knots. Lots of carbs to soak up the alcohol! You can get square pies cut party size so they're easy to eat standing up and moving around.
It's also nice when there's big pitchers or bowls of a pre-made cocktail, like sangria or margaritas.

I would definitely get wings and probably a hero. Uncle G's makes this finger sandwich platter that is awesome. Not as big as hero easy to eat. People eat when they drink.

I agree with most. I'd add heros or wrap sandwiches at least. I hate nothing more than going to a party and starving to death lol

Thanks all. I meant to say we are doing a whole mix of wraps or a long sub. Lots of apps. Not crackers. I mean the big Philly pretzels, moz sticks, min hotdogs, etc.
I'll throw some wings too. THat's a good idea

It's a beer themed party. Plus, we have a mostly neighbors coming over. They can walk. I'm not talking about getting wasted, but fun night without the kids starting at 8PM.

Yes, it's called for 8 at night. Most people coming are the neighbors. Anyone further can sleep over or obviously not drink too much.
We know a lot of friends who have the kids sleeping out for the night,

Definitely planning on having more than just crackers.
Going to do wraps and a sub then and the philly pretzels tray is huge along with mini hot dogs, maybe I'll add potato skins, moz sticks, etc

I think you should add something meal-like that is hot. Pizza would be fine IMO.

I would agree you should have something more substantial than just apps. I think a hero and some salads would be great.
I've gotten wrap at Costco not tray but single from food court. It's ok. I'd probably go with from deli or specialty store instead.

This . I can't drink unless I have a full stomach. We aren't 17 anymore.
