my 3 year old does not eat

My toddler went from being a picky eater to not wanting to eat at all. He is in a daycare setting where he would eat lunch with the kids

Not sure what to do- He has severe food allergies, but he knows he is safe with our food

For breakfast he will eat Yogurt and Milk (at home)

snack at daycare will be cheese, or fruit

I send lunch, always the food he is comfortable with, and lately- received memo that he will not eat any food for lunch

Afternoon snacks- fruit Bars, cookies, crackers etc

and Dinner he eats at home, and only wants peas

I am upset, has anyone else experience this? any suggestions?

Its not just w daycare, over the weekend he wont eat as well

My 2yo DD eats almost nothing. It's a phase and eventually they try new foods.

Yup, sounds like both of my kids. My oldest is 4.5yo now and has just started trying new foods. I feel like when he turned 4 I was able to reason with him more about trying something new. My 2yo still won't even try pizza. What kid doesn't eat pizza?!?! My kid! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you!! This post made me feel a little better. My son turned 4 in May is is still giving me a hard time about trying new foods - I am hoping we will have a turning point soon. He literally eats the same 4 things...

and he will not eat:

Ice cream (REALLY???)
Candy (WHAT?)
Juice (or as he calls it fruit water...)
Any Vegetables
Any Meat

Dont get me wrong...I am glad he doesnt like ice cream, candy and juice...but it is WEIRD!! LOL

My nearly 3 year old eats a lot of dairy too. Other foods - she will love something and suddenly not want it, and then like it again. She will even change her mind after I prepare what she asked for.

I would see ped and see what he or she thinks about the weight of your kid. If thin, vitamins and supplements may be the next step.

If the kid is normal weight, I've found cutting out all snacks and extras will guarantee eaten meals. Hard to do with school, but I found that as long as I didn't give kids anything else, they were hungry by dinner and gave me best effort in eating.

Hats off for the peas though.... NONE of us (myself included) likes peas... and we really eat everything.

I didnt start snacks until DS was older. I really stuck to 3 meals and day for a long time. As they get older that gets harder. But with snacks I feel like you are feeding them all day long. And at that point who is ever really hungry?

My son is 10, he is thin, you can count his ribs, he is 67lbs and active and the ped said do not do any supplements and no extra vitamins beyond the usual multivitamin

They're not made for kids

I don't mean every thin kid needs supplements... especially older ones that are burning the calories they intake...

I simply mean if a kid is barely eating and really losing weight... good idea to see ped. He or she will follow carefully and see you more often (we did this, but at a very young age). Pediasure is the type of supplement I was thinking of for calorie intake if there is a real problem.

If your ped thinks kid is not thin (I've no idea what OP kid looks like), the no snack regimen has always gotten my kids to eat whatever I serve (within limits). A cheese stick within 2 hours before dinner means no one will eat their chicken with broccoli that they devoured last week. While I don't mind healthy snacks, they can obviously kill appetites.
