Short trip ideas
I know this has been asked a million times, but any ideas for short trips within a 2 hour drive? We have a very active 18 month old. I was originally thinking Lancaster, but it's a bit far. I thought of Mystic but not much to do besides the aquarium- she's too little for the seaport.
TIA

Sesame place? We're pretty far into Suffolk and if we drive when there's not traffic it takes just under 2.5 hours. That age would have a blast there.

Re: Short trip ideas
Honestly, at that age, I just bring them along for the ride and they had more fun at a new park than a bigger place....
Museums are a good place to start: Stepping stones in Norwalk (they have an aquarium too) Firefighter museum in Nassau and ride on carousel
Zoos: Bronx, Queens. We make the kids walk it!
Farms: LI Game farm, white post, small ones for fruit picking
I was not a fan of sesame place. I think Adventureland is plenty for that age set... heck, mine had a great time riding coin operated mall rides.

Go into the city and do the Victorian gardens and Central Park zoo.

Thanks. We want somewhere we can stay over so no city (we're from the city, DH works in the city so it's definitely not a getaway for us!)
If you've done Lancaster, did you stop halfway through? I don't see DD lasting 4 hours straight in the car.

Re: Short trip ideas
What about staying in Westchester? Spend the day at the bronx zoo and the next day spend some time at rye playland?

I think Dutch Wonderland is great for that age!
I don't think 4 hours is that far for an 18 month old personally. You could always stop for food/bathroom break around 2 hours into the drive. We have driven 3.5 hours with my son since he was 8 weeks old to visit family about once a month.
We've done drives up to 8 hours with him. He's now 3 and potty-trained. For Memorial Day Weekend, he lasted 5-5.5 hours with no stops and didn't have one complaint (Thank god for the iPad!)
