am i crazy?
ok, well... i know the answer to the question
but more specifically for this scenario...
i want to have an adult birthday party in the backyard... in mid-december. i'm in southern california.
i will rent four space heaters and i will have two small-ish fire pits.
i'm also going to have a blanket station if people get chilly.
am i crazy for wanting to put this together??

44 at night is cold. Personally, I would look for an indoor space to hold the party because if 44 is the average you could get a very cold night and then what is your back up plan? Can all of your guests fit in the house?

I think it's too cold. Even with a blanket and a heater I would not want to stay outdoors for an extended period of time.

Re: am i crazy?
What time of day? If it is mid afternoon, it will probably be close to the high, which, to me, is fine. That is like the fall in NY & people spend a lot of time outdoors then.
You should probably ask other Californians. My cousin lives in San Diego & her definition of cold is a lot different than mine!

Re: am i crazy?
would you be able to rent an enclosed party tent? my cousin had one for a late march party and that, coupled with the heaters, made it very comfortable for the backyard party.

Re: am i crazy?
I wouldn't do it. Maybe if it was a young crowd. Older people tend to have a very low tolerance for chilly weather. I went to an outdoor birthday party for a friends kid, I think it was the first week of October in the early evening... all the adults were ******** and moaning about how cold it was. I like the weather to be a little more mild so I didn't mind, but I felt terrible for my friend. A lot of people left before cake. The house wasn't big enough for everyone but a lot of people were trying to find a spot indoors.

Re: am i crazy?
I'd skip the blanket station and get a tent in case its too cold. My friend did a 40th here in NY in mid December and had a tent with space heaters and it was fine.

Re: am i crazy?
I would love it.
I prefer cooler weather and rather be outside in 44 degrees than 90

thanks for the info and the idea of a large tent.
being that the party isn't for another 18 months, i still have time to think of ideas, compare prices for tents, and check the old farmers' almanac for weather info (it served me well for my wedding back in 2006)
