Child and grandparents
My daughter used to cry with my mother in law and father in law when she was little and grew out of it. All of a sudden we are going through the same thing. She's 4. DH took her to their house one day and all she did was cry. She cries hysterically at the sound of their name and says she doesn't want to see them. She doesn't say why. We don't see them often and they are not the warm and fuzzy type that will start playing with her. My daughter is a very people person and is always Good with everyone even if she duesht seen them often, except for my in laws. Any ideas how to fix this? Anyone ever been in a similar situation?

Did they ever babysit her alone? Something likely happened that she is fearful and cries like this... I would try and think back to when it started. There wouldn't be this type of behavior without reason.

Re: Child and grandparents
My DD did something like this in December. She is also 4 and very friendly, doesn't cry very often. When we saw out-of-town family for Christmas, she cried as soon as she walked in. A few days later we did another family thing and she started to cry again. I'm still not sure why. We were with the same group before at Thanksgiving and recently at Easter and she was fine. I think she was afraid of someone, but she wouldn't say who or why. She was never alone with any of them. I think she's starting to become more sensitive and afraid of some things.

I wonder the same thing. If it's only them and the crying happens even at just mentioning their names, I would be concerned that something happened.

And kids pick up on a lot. I think it could even be something she heard you say about them.

Yes, they have babysit my daughter and we haven't had issues for a long time. The last time it happened was when my husband brought her over their house fir a visit. The three of them were there together and she just cried. The time we saw them before that she was ok so nothing could have happened in between. So it had to be something that set her off that day DH brought her for a visit. The only two possible things I could think of is that my mother in law had a brace on her leg or maybe my inlaws were arguing and it was noisy. Other than that I'm clueless. But this reaction is only with them. Not my brother in law or sister in law.

Re: Child and grandparents
My almost 3-year old daughter cries like that with her great-grandparents, even when we mention their names. I feel so bad for them. They love her so much and bring her gifts all the time but it's like she's afraid of them. They've never been alone with her so I know nothing traumatizing happened. It's actually embarrassing the way she reacts. I know she must have her own reason so I don't get mad at her or anything--I just feel terrible and it obviously really bothers them The only thing I can think of is that my husband's grandma wears a brace on one of her legs and is sometimes in a wheelchair.

I haven't had this happen exactly but DS turned 4 in matcha nd she's just scared of everything and questions everything. What was that beep? That noise? What's that? Hated the fire alarm at school. There was Ana code that near the school and they had to shut the power for a bit and they said she was beside herself. I think just being 4. Lol. Scream of a lot. And she cries a lot.
