spin off to organ donation - how to donate body to science?
is this something that needs to be registered in advance? are their certain agencies? I would rather be used as a cadaver for a future practicing physician than put in a box/urn. I have told my family this, but honestly, I have no idea the process - nor do they.
any idea?

I have no idea but just want to say that's amazing. If I can get over my self consciousness I might consider the same.

Maybe you could contact a local medical school and inquire about the process. That is very admirable of you.

My Dad wanted to do this. I don't recall who he received all the information from - probably his doctor at the VA. When it came down to it we discussed it as a family (at that point it was only him & I) and decided against it.

I never really thought about a full body donation to science but I am a registered organ donor for virtually everything.
I just found this about donating to science.

I agree about contacting a local medical school - I'm sure they could give you the information you're looking for.
My MIL wanted to donate her body to one of those forensic farms. There's one that was near-by at a university in TN. They place the bodies in certain outside conditions and then study what happens. It's pretty gross (some are placed in garbage cans, some are placed in water, some are shallow buried in the woods) and they leave them in that condition for a set amount of time (days, weeks, etc). They do it so they can study everything about the body's situation so it can help detectives solve crimes.
She died a few years ago and ended up being cremated. I think when it came down to it she couldn't bring herself to do it (I don't think I could either), but I think that's a great way to help out, too.

my mothers friends mother did. In fact this has become popular but not out of the goodness of people hearts, more because the cost of a funeral is so great more people are doing this to the point medical schools are over loaded and some are not taking

My husband's father did this and his body went to Stonybrook University. However, I don't know what the process was.
