If you grieved your taxes in Suffolk and got a reduction....
....what percentage was your reduction? We just grieved and got a reduction but it is basically nothing - like 3%. We are still paying several thousand dollars more than most of our neighbors whose houses have more improvements than ours! How do the towns make the decision about how much to grant you?

$500 i think that was about 6%.

they do it based off of appraisal value. your neighbors probably havent gotten reassessed in a while. did you use a service? i used mark lewis. mostly because i was lazy and didnt want to do it myself. i also already had an appraisal so it didnt cost me much even when i won

you can probably find the exact formula on your town's website in the tax section. you only get a reduction if it is found that your actual market value (based on your home's recent purchase price or comps in the area) is less than the market value indicated by the town's assessment. that reduction would be specific to the actual difference between real market value and assessed market value.
This market value is determined by dividing the real property assessment by the Town’s 2017 Residential Assessment Ratio (RAR). The RAR is adjusted by New York State annually.
