foyer flooring

I am looking to replace the flooring in my foyer. Right now it is ugly faux brick laminate.
I am not sure the best replacement- tile, wood, slate?
My house is an in-line high ranch so my foyer is small and I have stairs off to the right which are wood and then a small hallway off the foyer which we are turning into a mudroom. I would probably continue the same flooring right into the mudroom area too.
Does anyone have experience with slate? I love the look but my husband says he thinks it could be slippery and hard to maintain.

Re: foyer flooring

I would probably stick with tile- esp for a mudroom situation as it's easier to keep clean

Re: foyer flooring

My parents have slate in their front foyer and back entrance. Yes it is slippery and they put rugs down.. They have a colonial.

My inlaws have slate in their high ranch entrance and it is slippery. Then they have wood stairs up and down. I am a clutz and fall going up and down. They used to have rugs on the the stairs and it was much better. On the platform they do have a rug out in wet weather.

I have slate on my front stoop and hate it. It is so slippery and I am always afraid I will fall when it is wet.

Vinyl planking with a wood look.
Easy to maintain and perfect for the situation. Waterproof and petproof.

I would do tile in an entryway/mudroom. It will be more durable than wood.

But I'd probably steer clear of the slate for the reasons mentioned above.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am thinking tile would probably be the best option since it does seem slate is too slippery- especially since I have to truck all my laundry up and down through there :)

I have wood, and while I love it, I hate that it got so worn looking so fast. We re did them 5 years ago and they were worn looking within 2 years since it's our main entrance. I would probably go with tile if I were to re do the foyer.
