Destin, Fl and FL Gulf Coast?
A friend recently showed me a picture of Destin and its turquoise water and sold me for our next trip.
Has anyone been to this area of Florida?
I have been to Orlando and Miami countless times but never to the Gulf Coast beaches of Florida.
We live in DC and the only direct non-stop flights I can find are to Pensacola. Wondering if Pensacola beaches are as nice as Destin or if we should drive the 1.5 hrs to actually get to Destin.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I've been to many Gulf beaches (Marco Island, Naples, Bonita Beach, St. Pete Beach, Clearwater Beach) They are all beautiful!!! I love the west coast of FL. Look at Tampa and Fort Myers airports for those areas for direct flights.
Not sure about Pensacola. I imagine the beach is just as nice since it's the Gulf.

I love the Gulf Coast of FL. In particular, Sanibel Island, and the surrounding areas of Naples and Marco Island

DH & I took a trip last year to Ft Meyers, the water wasn’t as clear but we had an amazing time!. We stayed at the Pink Shell Resort. I highly recommend it. It was the perfect vacation to relax and hang out. Also, it was a short ride or walk into town too.

I would go to Clearwater beach area vs. driving 1.5 hours to get to Destin from Pensacola. Destin always gets nice reviews, it's further north. A few hotels were decent when I looked into it, but it's a lot of condos and timeshare type place.
The Sandpearl in Clearwater is a nice hotel, and the water there is nice and clear and turqoiuse. The sand is so soft like flour! The pier has family movie nights in the Summer. Lots of great restaurants along the strip, mini golf, etc. Tampa has a lot to do, great museum and the Dolphin Tale aquarium (Clearwater Marine Aquarium).

I can't agree with the Sandpearl more. It was perfection every single day. The staff go out of their way for you. Service is impeccable. Resort is just stunning

I love Destin! My aunt lived across the bridge when I was a kid and we went there every summer. I have honestly never seen a US beach as perfect as those. It is like the Caribbean. I flew into Fort Walton Beach Airport, which isn't far at all.

Siesta Key!! It's about 25 mins from Sarasota. The sand is crushed quartz and feels like powder...and stays cool even in the blazing sun. Water is clear and blue and so calm. We rented a condo right on the water.
It was rated #1 beach in the US a few years ago.
And Siesta Key Village is adorable with tons of open air restaurants and bars.
