How much do you spend on a family of 4 for a trip into the city and what exactly do you do/spend it on this time of year?

This.
The thought of the money spent alone is enough for me to say- ehhhh is it worth it?
Train tickets alone are super expensive from Ronkonkoma.
Then I looked at the prices for the Rockettes show- and this was WITH a work discount since MSG is our customer and they own Radio City- and it was insanity.
Like pure insanity for a show that is mediocre at best.
Then the restaurants are all pricey too

And then the crowds at this time of year which give me hives and anxiety attacks.

And then my DD, who complains about everything, who can't walk for more than a few minutes without b1tching, who has to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes,...ummmm no thanks!

So I said, let's skip it and save the money for Christmas gifts.

Going in for work a few times a month is enough for me.

I really feel like NYC at this time of year is grossly overrated.

We went a couple of times. Once for Rockettes, once for Rudolph. The Rockettes tickets were $200 total for four tickets. Train tickets are expensive...you are better off driving...but we didn't want to deal with traffic. Dinner can be pricey, but can also be inexpensive, just depends on where you go.

Thanks! I live in eastern queens and work in western nassau so dont go in that much anymore

I feel like im depriving DDs 13 and 11 of an annual trip into the city. Last year we did the Rockettes but never saw the tree, macys etc. We also went to matilda last spring. Both shows were with Work discounts but still $$. Another time we went in just to see my friend and her kids who were at a hotel in Times Square

We either take the LIRR from bayside or a bus and subway. I remember they werent crazy about the crowds either and were happy to be home after lol

I mean, it doesn't sound like it is something that is a must do for your family. You could pick another event or just plan some special things to do in the city at another time.

Spring at the High Line, or something like that, you know?

LOL! True....

But maybe we can find better stuff to do then just that stuff...actually I work downtown and the tree at South Street Seaport is pretty this year, plus store and I think an ice rink (That could be at Brookfield though) and then WTC, etc....
