Would you cancel waterpark/ski plans if your kid broke his arm?
5yo DS broke his arm this weekend and is in a cast for the next 6 weeks.
We had several tentative trips scheduled in December including Great Wolf Lodge, Camelback, Snow Shoe and a few days of day trip skiing over winter break.
Would you cancel?
DS won't be able to swim or ski. However, 7yo DS will be able to.

Yes. I think it would be mean for one kid to watch the other having a great time.

Is the cast waterproof? I know most are nowadays. If so, I would just go to the waterpark. Skiing might be tough, although kids don't use poles nowadays. Taking the magic carpet up requires no holding on. So maybe

That's a no brainer. Not even a question. Why go on a trip where one child cannot do anything that the trip is about?

I agree to cancel. It's not really fair to throw it in his face.

Absolutely cancel. All those trips and the little one won't be able to do much if anything. I broke my arm as a kid and it was the worst having to sit out and watch my friends playing without me. So I think he may be really unhappy.

Cancel. Or better yet, reschedule for later in the winter. Don't make the 5-yo feel worse than he probably already does.

I agree if you don't want to cancel and the cast is water proof I would just do the waterpark and not do skiing

His cast is not waterproof. I am going to see if I can get him a cover.
We are going to Williamsburg this weekend but decided not to stay at Great Wolf. We may stop by and check out the arcade. We will still go to Busch Gardens Christmastown as planned.
I think DH will take 7yo DS skiing alone while I stay home with 5yo DS.

I would cancel, I'm sure he'd feel left out not being able to participate in all of the water and snow fun.
Hope he feels better soon!!

Happened to me as a kid except I tore my meniscus. Funny part is it's my most memorable trip as a family ever. While everyone was skiing I got to experience other things, hot cocoa in the hot tub, arcade, and even won a bocce tournament lol. I actually don't even remember our other trips and we went every year to that time share.
It matters your child personality but I know mine would rather go still than to sit home moping around. There are still plenty other things to do and especially if you can get a cast cover.

I just learned that the cast may come off in 4 weeks, not 6 weeks so Camelback may be still on. I wouldn't want him to ski but he can take it easy in the waterpark. Will find out more at his doc appt this week.
