According to Wikipedia, it's on the Rockaway Peninsula.

Yup. Arverne is in the Rockaways. Do you have a car? I would check how often that A train runs and what else is around there. Even if you take train to work the area can be isolating if you don't drive

This. You would have to take at least 1 bus to the subway. I would not move there if you work on LI. Or the city. Or anywhere NOT in the Rockaways.

You work near Jamaica LIRR. And you want to move closer to that area and not get shot? Look along the Hempstead line. New Hyde park, floral park, bellerose. Floral park to Jamaica in the morning is 13-19 min by LiRR
If you don't mind taking a bus, the q30/q31 runs to Jamaica estates, fresh meadows, bayside, douglaston and little neck. I take the bus to LIRr jamaica when I travel and it's about 30 min door to door from douglaston

Queens pepes come in regarding travel distance
I live on LI now and work 5 min from the LIRR Jamaica station. I found an apt in Rockaway, Averne. I dont know the area at all. I get the sense its not near my current job. I have a car, but travel by train now for ease. Otherwise it can take me over an hours

Bayside line will not take you to Jamaica unless you go past it and go to Woodside and back

born, raised, STILL LIVE in Rockaway and work off the Peninsula.
The A train would take you to East New York then you get the J to Jamaica. 1 hour plus. Not the move trust me.
You could park at the Far Rockaway stop of the LIRR and take it to Jamaica. Mta.info says its a 30 min trip from stop to stop.
Driving on the Van Wyck always sucks. During the week except in the summer.
GL in your quest. Rockaway is the place to be now despite our transportation desert. We expect our ferry to wall st back in the Spring, unless De D!ckhead screws us again.

Takes about an hour by bus from Bayside to Jamaica. Did it for jury duty. Took me 2 buses to get there from Bay Terrace.

ETA you could take the LIRR to Jamaica from there, too though the subway would be cheaper/you don't have to rely on the disaster that is the LIRR.

really.. are you from or ever lived in queens? This is a ridiculous statement.
Like others mentioned there are plenty of places you can live in Queens that are near where you work. Example Jamaica estates is a 20 min drive. I'm from that area of Queens and drove all the time unless I was commuting to the city.

I was making a reference to her moving near the jamaica station. I have lived in queens my entire life and know the borough very well. She is looking to move near her job. Look at my previous post. Jamaica estates and the part by the LIRR station are completely different parts of jamaica. You have to consider all hours of the day. Not just 9-5. I grew up in Jamaica estates as well.

Depends where in bayside. If she's along the LIE, it's less. But again, taking a bus you have to factor in traffic and weather.

Queens pepes come in regarding travel distance
thank you everyone. I just wanted to know how long it would take to get to/from work/home and what kind of transportation options I would have. I get the sense Rockaway is not very close to Jamainca or not an easy travel. I dont want to take the bus.
I asked bc an apartment option came up in the area mentioned

It's not very close to Jamaica and honestly even though they are building up Arverne, it's still not a very good area. Luvbuffet gave you some good options.
