Police in NY and Trump
I didn't want to bring this up in the other thread where some feel that Obama has been unfair to cops.
But I was thinking about the reports that Trump staying in Trump tower ( and then we find out that Melania and Barron will stay for a while, plus Trump wants to be there on the weekends during his presidency) and how that's all costing the city a TON of money and resources… it's costing New York over 1 million per day according to a news report.
Policeman and other detail working tons of overtime so much where DeBlasio is going to ask for federal money because this is kind of unprecedented.
If I was the wife of a city cop or city cop myself, this would kind of make me annoyed. Plus it seems even more dangerous, being that NYC is such a big target anyway and now even more with a new president in town.
What are your thoughts on this?
I figured it would be something to discuss and think about, especially being how I've read posters say how Obama has been disrespectful to police.

The cops and cops' wives I know love it. OT money. Especially if they are close to retirement. Every penny of OT is money in tbe pension for the rest of their lives.
Not to mention most of his security will be provided by the secret service. NYPD will have details around it of course, but like after 9/11 the city can get federal funds to help offsettl the OT costs

I live in NYC so these are my tax $. If it goes in cops pockets great for them and their families.
If Melania stays here most of the time Trump should pay for her security!

My husband has to work thanksgiving anyway but now he has to do the trump detail instead and will get over time out of it...this is the second trump detail he has done in two weeks

Absolutely. Any security for him or his family outside of the normal budget because of their "choices" should be on his dime and not ours. They are being provided with a beautiful home that comes fully secure.

I feel bad for the businesses around there too… There's one restaurant that says they're already losing money
Also, can you imagine being a resident in Trump tower?
all these poor souls that are being affected didn't sign up for this

Right. Because of their poor planning, thousands of people's lives and businesses and all NYC residents' pocketbooks will be impacted. Every other First Lady has moved into the White House. But I guess nothing is normal nowadays.

My office is working the detail everyday and it is not bad. We are actually treated very good. The only problem I see is the amount I will pay on gas driving in.
I am also close to retirement so it works out good for me.

It will be everyone's pocketbooks. Federal money comes from all of our taxes.
