Stores open on Thanksgiving?
Should stores be open on Thanksgiving?
Obviously, some places have to be open. Any emergency services have to be operating, and gas stations need to at least be open, since there is so much driving.
Does Walmart really need to be open on Thanksgiving, though?

I think supermarkets should be open in the morning just so people can grab last minute items they may have forgotten and at least a few gas stations need to be open for those traveling. Other than that, I'm all about being home and stuffing my face!!!

If there are enough people to run the store voluntarily, then sure. Some people probably WANT to work on holidays so they get the overtime because that holiday doesn't mean much to them.
So if the business has enough people to open without forcing people then sure. There will always be someone in there shopping, no matter what day it is.

pretty much this.
Like you said - the essentials.. grocery store, gas stations, 7-11's and such. but other than that - I won't be shopping at a store that night. I can wait.
also - most stores will actually have their "black friday" sales online too, so I normally sit on my ipad and shop when we get home from wherever we are for thanksgiving. hahaha

On the other hand, many would love to work for the $ for the holidays. its hard out there.

Perhaps a fire extinguisher too, if you happen to leave the turkey in the oven too long.  Didn't think of that!

Otherwise, if people really want to shop - you can get some great deals online on Thanksgiving (and it's a lot less stressful!!!)

stop and shop is open until like 2 on memorial day, etc.
they should be open for a few hours.
i have had to go to best yet on christmas eve for things we forgot!
also, cvs. i must shop there on thanksgiving.
