Are you Optimistic or Pessimistic?

In general, are you an optimist, pessimist, or sort of in the middle?
Obviously, we all have times and situations where we're one way or the other, but this is an overall outlook.

I'm a realist. I try to envision the worst possible outcome so that I am prepared for it; however, I also envision the best possible outcome and how I can achieve it.

If something negative happens to me, however, I try to take from it what I can. I don't know if it is optimism over realism though because I don't invent positive outcomes of negative situations; I'll try to learn from them if no true positive exists.

Optimistic with realistic grounding. I chose 'slightly optimistic'

I stay away from pessimists. They fck up my vibe.

Edit: I've become more optimistic after going through cancer. I know I'm here on borrowed time - we ALL are - so I make the best of every situation and find a way to laugh about things when the shit hits the fan. And the shit has hit the fan in my life many, many times...keeping positive helps me chug along and cope.

I think I tend to be a pessimist. Moreso to prepare myself. I like to be prepared for the worst and be pleasantly surprised if things work out better. Especially since emotionally I dont handle change or big life events well, so emotionally I always expect the worst or look at the glass as half empty and if things turn out better, then great...but I don't count on it.

For me, I think it came from how I grew up. Mostly disappointed, poor family ... Never caught a break. Ever.

Kinda hard to come back from that. I'm moving away from very pessimistic because I'm learning to enjoy the little things these days. The big things , hopes and dreams I once had , well, it isn't happening. Mostly a realist w pessimistic views

I am a realist- I try to see all sides of the situation- I am married to an eternal optimist and I feel like I have to keep things grounded in our lives.

I think I lean toward optimistic.
I tend to assume things will work out ok & fall into place. I tend to be hopeful.
I think you sort of have to have some of that positivity to get through life without being totally miserable.
I used to worry more, but as I get older, I find I worry less. My perspective has changed & I don't take things as seriously as I used to. Life is too short for that.
I try to suppress my pessimistic outlook when fears creep in, or push the thoughts out of my head.
But DH says I complain too much.... I think he's wrong LOL.

Slightly optimistic / realist.

Nothing is perfect all of the time, which is why I can't choose very optimistic, while on the opposite end, I'm not a "woe is me, the sky is falling, everything sucks" pessimist either.

Slightly optimistic fits the bill because it makes me feel better.
Negativity just drags one down.

I am very optimistic. There is always a way to look at the positive in any situation and life is too short to be negative.

I would say a realistic optimist. Even if presented with a bad situation, I try to find what ever glimmer of hope I can and hold on to it.

As a young person I would've said very optimistic as an adult I picked slightly optimistic lol

As a Libra I definitely think I am a realist, I see all sides to a situation and rarely make a hard and fast decision. I tend to see things for all the good and bad, but I generally try to be optimistic as opposed to pessimistic.

I swing from a little optimistic to a little pessimistic depending on the situation. Mostly if it's negative to mentally prepare myself.

With my kids I am an optimist - with my DH I am more of a realist as he is such a dreamer - I have to reign him in :) so I think I am a realist with moments of optimism :)

I am a pessimist by nature , unfortunately. Let me explain:
I live my life hoping for the best, but mentally expecting the worst. This way if the best happens, its a wonderful surprise, and a blessing. This is what keeps me humble. I know that life a series Murphys Laws. What can go wrong, WILL go wrong. And if its expected, at least I will be prepared for it. Or at least try to be prepared. Although, I know that there are some things in life that you are never prepared for, no matter how much you think you are!

Definitely a realist. I really don't hope for anything but I don't think the worst of things either. I just take every situation as they come and do what is best at that time.
