Anyone pierce their DCs ears after a year old?

Dh has been pushing me to do it for the twins since they were 3-4 months old. I don't want to but if it were the other way around, I'd likely get my way so I'm giving in. LOL.
The girls are 15 months and I feel like i'm going to scar them with this. Any success stories with piercing your DCs ears after a year old?

Anyone pierce their DCs ears after a year old?

My dd requested them about a month before her 3rd bday. She asked for them which is what I wanted and she cried for maybe a minute. She had to get them redone about 5 weeks later because she had surgery and she had to remove them. She cried a little more then.

Personally I would wait till they asked for them but that's just me.

We went to piercing pagoda at smithaven and had them done at the same time.

That is exactly what I wanted to do. wait for them to be old enough to ask for them. Plus I'm concerned with them touching them or pulling at them and infection.

I would personally wait. What if they don't want them? Why not wait till they are excited about it and can take care of them. Have some friends who did it on their toddlers and it didn't go well (had to have them re-pierced when they were older)

I agree, I would wait until they ask for them. Alot of my friends either did it when their DDs were young (3 months) or when they were older and asked for them. The ones who did them at 12 - 24 months regret doing so because they pulled at them/got infections etc.

We got DD's done when she was about 1 and 1/2. I was a little hesitant too, but she actually did really well.

I'm of the opinion that it should be the child's decision not the parent's. So, I would wait until they can decide for themselves. My daughter will be 5 on Thursday and has mentioned in passing that she wants them pierced, so we will probably get it done sooner than later. But, I'm happy we waited until she could understand and take proper care of them.

Out of curiosity, why is your husband so insistent on it being done now?

We plan on doing our girls ears the summer before Kindergarten. I think it will be nice because going into K means they are "big kids" and this is something special. Of course, if they say no I won't do it. But no matter what we definitely won't be doing it before 5.

We did it at 10 months old and that's probably the oldest I'd do it. I held DD's arms down, and she cried for maybe 20 seconds. I wasn't worried about that. I was more concerned about her playing with the earrings. The older they get, the more aware they are of it. But if they're younger, they tend to just get used to it and then it's normal for them. My DD has never played with her earrings, but that would be my only concern. If you think your daughter would leave them alone, then I say go for it!

I would, however, recommend doing it somewhere they do both at once. If my DD had to sit for the second ear, she'd be walking around with 1 earring!

My concern is them touching the earrings and pulling on them and then dealing with infection and the possibility of having to take them out only to redo them later on. Plus, I feel bad that it will hurt them.
DH wants to get them done becuase 1. they will look so cute. 2. He feels that people mistake them for boys. 2a. they don't have much hair which is probably why they are mistaken for boys.

He's been wanting to get them done since the girls were small (3-4 months) but I just felt bad about it being painful.

I really wanted to have DD's ears pierced when she was young (around 3-4 months) and DH was opposed to it and refused. She is now 15 months and I feel like I've missed the "window" for ear piercing. I likely will now not get them done until she asks for them herself. She is teething now (getting molars) and is constantly pulling on her ears and sticking her fingers in her ears -- both very common for molar teething. They often don't understand where the pain is coming from and because molars are far back, they assume its their ears.

We made the decision to wait until DD asked to have her ears pierced. We wanted it to be her choice. So she wanted to have them down a month after she turned 3. She cried only for a minute. I made it into a cute little girls day... we got our nails done, went out for lunch and then got her ears pierced.

I agree with this.
I won't pierce do it unless SHE wants it.
I never got my ears pierced and never wanted it . To this day.
I know I could have taken them out and let them close up- it's not a permanent thing like a tattoo- but I'm glad my mom never did it because it would have been a waste.
I'm not a fan of earrings.

Got both my girls ears pierced at around 14-16 Months. They cried but were over it quickly. Some days were easier to clean then others.

Looking back now, I'm glad that they are done but I could have waited too.

Really just a personal preference.
