Car Seat experts- question about traveling and booster seats
So DD is 6 and tiny for her age. I still have her in a 5 pt harness seat and intend to keep her in it for quite some time.
However, we are planning to travel to Florida in the fall and whether we rent a car or get an uber from the airport to the resort (about 7 mile drive) I am wondering if I can get away with one of those travel booster seat that I can pack easily and I can use with the regular seat belt. It will be a short drive and i would sit back there with her to make sure she sits upright and in the right position for the belt the whole time.
Is this safe? Thoughts?
I'd love to avoid renting a 5 pt harness car seat down there or dragging ours with us if I can.

I wouldn't rent a seat, harness or booster, ever.
You can get a no back booster and pack it in your luggage (with clothes all around it as cushion) check her fit (especially the shoulder belt) in a car up here before you go. Make sure the lap belt is off her belly and down on her hips.

Yes I was wondering if a no back booster, which I bring from home would be safe. No back boosters make me nervous in general for her size. I just figured for travel it might be easier

We bought bubblebums for our two older girls for when we travel. At home, they are in high back boosters, but we needed something easy to travel with for them. They fold up super small.

This is what we used for DS in FL last year. Hewas also 6. He's on the taller side but very skinny and we have him in a 5 point harness at home, but figured for the trip, we'd just make sure he sat upright. I looked into it and it seems like by this age, as long as they sit properly with a seat belt, it should be just as safe. DS falls asleep often in the car so I like knowing he can't slump too much.

OK thanks. She definitely meets the weight requirement for the bubblebums, I looked it up. I was just wondering if a no back booster was safe at all for her age. As long as it is, I will consider it. It's just scary because she isn't even in a high back booster at home yet so this just seems like so much less!

We used it with my 4yo while on block island. I was only comfortable with it bc it's a small island with very low speed limits so we wouldn't be going far or fast. If it's a few miles and you're not on highways I would say go for it.

Car Seat experts- question about traveling and booster seats
My son is 6.5 and 45 lbs and is still in a 5pt harness as well. Sometimes for quick trips or if we have one of DS 2's friends with us, we use a low back booster for him with no problems. He also uses them for camp when they travel in vans.

Re: Car Seat experts- question about traveling and booster seats
Are you flying? If so just bring your car seat on board and long as she is still harnessed. They sell these hooks that connect your car seat to your luggage and it's very easy to bring through the airport. It's very easy to install on the plane.

Yes but we are thinking we don't need to rent a car this time- just do an Uber. I can't imagine DH sitting there trying to install the car seat in an uber.

I would just bring a low back booster. She is 6, so meets the age requirement, and I'm sure meets the weight and height requirement for it also. Make sure you practice in your own car before you go so she knows the expectation and explain to her that she needs to sit upright in the booster.

I think i will do this. I just have to check the weight/height minimum because she definitely is TINY for her age

They have the Bubblebum booster on Zulilly today for $19.99. It's not a great deal if you just order one with the shipping costs and all but if you are ordering other things it is.
