WWYD re: 1st birthday favors & pinata madness

I have two questions that I'm looking for some input on.

Favors:
I'm doing a barn theme so I decided to get the kids personalized piggy banks. I have about 10 older kids and by older I mean older than 8. Is that ridiculous to get them a personalized piggy bank? Are they too old for that? Part of me thinks yes and that I should just make them a goody bag full of candy. But then I think 1. What age should be the cut off for the piggy banks? and 2. If they have a little sibling that would be, say 5, and get a piggy bank, is it going to cause a problem? I don't want any crying or disappointed kids.

Pinata:
So there's going to be like 40 kids from 0-13. We all know that once the candy comes out of the pinata its a complete free for all and, let's face it, the little kids get trampled by the big kids. How can I make it so that its fair for the younger kids and they can get candy too? Wait until all the pinata candy has been picked up and the bigger kids walk away and then throw another bag of candy out there? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Piggy bank I would just give everyone - they all need to save their pennies.

Piñata with 40 kids I would not attempt as it will be chaos. I love Piñata's as I have had them at every birthday party. We have about 15 kids. I did it with the school birthday party and there was about 25 kids and many had tears.

I would do two piñatas and break them into diff ages. Or just say it's for the younger kids if you only want 1. Or let the big kids do the piñata and then throw stuff in the distance for the little kids to get it, they won't realize it didn't come from the piñata

I'd give everyone a piggy bank. I had one until I went to college (full disclosure: it's still in my parents' house in my old room!)

With 40 kids a pinata sounds like chaos and an accident waiting to happen. I'd be nervous about the younger kids getting hurt with the swinging. And there's really no way to make it fair for the younger ones to get candy since it will be nearly impossible for 40 kids to all get candy at once when it opens.

Okay...so pigs for everyone. Solved that problem. Thank you.

Maybe I'll do the 2 pinatas. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I think that at another party I stood back with extra candy and just leaned into the pig pile and dropped it into the smaller kids bags and supplemented when they moved away.
