Is it possible to have outdoor only play dates?

We live in a cul de sac and my boys play outside with our neighbors. There are some boys who live just 1 block away. I don't mind the kids playing outside but I prefer not to host them inside my house. Immediate neighbors always play outside only. Nothing is ever planned. Kids just run outside if neighbors are outside.

There are these twins who ask all the time to play. Absolutely don't mind kids playing outside but strongly prefer them not to come inside our house. We had bad experiences over the winter. They also have a later dinnertime and the times they came over, it became awkward because I did not want to invite them to stay for dinner but they would not leave either.

Both kids and parents ask somewhat frequently to play. I have turned down requests since the winter. Most of the time they were real reasons because we really did have plans.

I assume the parents are bringing them over if you're calling it a "play date". I would find it odd if they weren't allowed in the house at all. Are you including to use the bathroom if needed? I don't have much experience with this but I just can't imagine not allowing a child who was brought to my house to pay to come inside at all. If you are at least letting them use the bathroom, then I don't think it's a big deal if you have it set up for them to play outside.

It also sounds like you need to have an established end time. I would specify that when you make the play date, saying something like "You can bring the kids over from 3 till 5 because we're having dinner then".

I would say let's meet at a park from x to y times. Or you could say the kids are going to play outside for an hour, would you like to walk them over, but we need to be done by x time.

I host play dates often with other friends. And the majority of the play date is indoors.

These twins destroy our house and both DH and I prefer the kids to not come over. At the same time, they live very close and constantly want to play.

The parents have stayed and dropped off for play dates. I don't mind the parents but I don't necessarily want to host them. At the same time, I don't want to watch their kids.

We are part of the same swim club. I think we will just have to wait to pool season. Pool opens in 3 weeks.

I would just keep it to outside places not near the home. Like park or swim club.

OR I would make it clear the kids can play for 1 hour but then we have to go. Dont explain or go into detail. And if they ask to come inside when the time is up, then say Im so sorry but not today. Maybe another time.

Make sure play date on a GORGEOUS day. That way they will want to stay out side. Give them some bubbles and sidewalk chalk. My kids are entertained for hours with that stuff lol
