Mone and dh's family live OOS so we post a lot. It's the only way they get to see my kid. Nothing wrong with not posting. Some people do. Some people don't.

Do you guys have iPhones/iPads? You can create a photo stream and invite them. Every time you load a pic t it subscribers (by invitation only) can see it.

My mil can barely use her cell phone to call people. My fil is the same way. They live 3000 miles away and have called us because something is flashing on a screen. They would never see their grandkids if I didny post on fb as we signed them in on their ipad.

To each their own. I post almost all pics I take of my kids on fb but I know a few people who don't. I use fb albums as a backup in case my pictures get deleted from my phone. My privacy settings are pretty tight.

Same here!

To all of you questioning the "risk", two points.

Anything you post on Facebook they "own" and can use your photos for whatever they want. Already we are seeing the beginning stages of facial tagging. Facebook slowly builds a profile up on you and your kids.

Second I cannot tell you the number of times I've seen children of people I am "friends" with on Facebook out in public without their parents. So literally I am recognizing children I've never met before. It's a super weird feeling where I almost feel I know this child when in fact I don't. It makes me nervous to think there could be a sicko out there recognizing my child and feeling they "know" them on social media.

Also side note, a family I knew was recently on vacation on the west coast. I drove past their house like 3x in one week to go to my in laws. It was so weird to drive by their house knowing they're NOT home and on vacation. If I was a criminal I would totally rob their house.

But how does the criminal know you're not home? Wouldn't that mean someone you know is robbing you? In that case if they know you, they know you're schedule regardless

I do too. I've also used other ways to keep my pics organized like dropbox but it gets too overwhelming sometimes.

Well therein lies the problem...people having "friends" on FB that they don't even know. That is beyond bizarre to me, and if I had a Facebook full of what are basically strangers, then no, I probably wouldn't share much either. But, my FB is filled with people I actually know.

I share pics all the time, my privacy settings are tight as they can be, and if someone were to rob me after I posted I was on vacation, I would KNOW it was one of my friends.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I work for a government agency - one that investigates a lot of child porn cases. people take pics of children off Facebook ALL THE TIME. They do not need to be nude. They photoshop it. I can't tell you how many times we found pics that the orginal pic was taken off a parents page (parents on Long Island). So it DOES happen. With that said - I will never use my kids as my profile pic but I will post pics of them here and there bc I have all my settings to private. So I am not saying I would never post pics or that people should never post pics - I just feel like people have this idea that this stuff "never happens". But it does so I would never agrue with someone for wanting to keep their kids of FB

I'm not one for bombarding family & friends with photos of my clan. My house is pretty much the same way...there aren't a lot of photos of us.

I'll post a photo if I think it's funny or my family & friends will get a kick out of it.

From a security standpoint, I'm not worried.

HOWEVER...my DD is entering the tween years and the kids are using various social media apps (Musical.ly for example)...now I'm on the edge of my seat as I check her ipad every day. Chat Icon

Same here pretty much every day.... . My business kind of relies of being able to post pics on social media. I rarely get a parent that says they don't want them on.

Re: Photos on social media

My family lives OOS so yes I post tons of pics of DS online. I don't think either is weird, but I would have no use or interest in FB if not to share pics of DS personally.

i post a lot of pics of DS on FB. my ILs and my parents live several hours away and he's their only grandkid... plus the rest of my famiy lives 2 hours away, too... so they like to see stuff. AND DS is adopted form Korea and his foster family that he lived with there as a toddler found me on FB, so i'm sure they like to see that he's doing great. Chat Icon
i also like it as kind of a "backup" to my phone, or a place to go to see all of my favorite pics of him.... i can upload them to shutter fly from FB to make a photobook or whatever.
. i don't friend random people on FB anyway... its mostly family, friends i've had for years, and adoption friends who i know have been background checked upside down and sideways HAHAHA

I post pics all the time. I have family and friends all over the country and the majority (90%) of my FB friends are people I know IRL. A handful are friends of friends or people from here. Also my security settings are as tight as can be. Besides no one wants to see me anyway--she's much cuter! Chat Icon
