At what age did u NOT have locks or gates?

For your kiddo? Just curious. So worried about safety in the middle of the night bc I have a ninja who will be 4 in May. Ty

My son is 6 and I still use a gate at the top of our stairs at night. I am afraid of him falling down the stairs when he gets up to use the bathroom. Locks on cabinets and doors, we stopped using at 3....

The locks on cabinets and doors I want to say about 3 years old. I still have the gate on the top of my stairs and my DD is 9. I am to worried about her waking up in the middle of the night and turning the wrong way and to be honest I'm a bit of a clutz too so it's good for me to have it there too lol. I don't envision taking the gate down in the foreseeable future.

We moved when DD1 was 4.5 and DD2 was 2.5. We never put them in the new house.

DS is 4.5 and is a sleepwalker. We still use ours.

I think it just depends on the kid. Mine are 4 and 2.5 and we haven't had our gate up for about 6 months. But they never get up in the middle of the night and we don't have a full set of stairs because we live in a high ranch. We do still have cabinet locks in the kitchen.

We never had gates. For locks, just on the one kitchen cabinet that has the dishwasher pods. Though dd has never ever shown an interest in putting anything in her mouth, stories about those freak me out. Dd is 3. We now have a newborn so everything will stay put for another few years. Other than outlet covers, we never baby proofed anything else, we left all our porcelain knickknacks out, etc. Gates frighten me as I know they are a firemans's worst nightmare (obviously except top of stairs).

AS a PP said, I think it depends on your kid. My DS is 23 months and we could probably get rid of the gate at the top of our stairs since he can safely go up and down the stairs all by himself, BUT he is always running in the upstairs hallway and I am scared he'll trip.

As for locks, we have them on the cabinets that contain chemicals and food. I know the food one is weird, but one day he got into the pantry and dumped all the cereal boxes and oatmeal out when he was trying to help himself. For now, only momma or dada can get him food.

ETA: We also have a gate around our wood stove. That will most likely be there FOREVER.

we never used any locks on any cabinets. for first DD we used a gate on the bottom of the stairs for a few months at like 2 and then got rid of it.

DH wasn't a fan of a gate on top of the stairs in fear they will try to climb over the gate to get out.

But DS 2 almost gave me a heart attack running back and forth the other night that I might consider putting a gate up till he is about 3

We barely used it with my 3rd. With my 1st probably until he was about 3?

I have a gate at the Top of my stairs but half the time it's not closed and if it is it's not locked.

We still have cabinet locks but just because we are too lazy to remove them.

My DS can unlock anything so they don't really stop him.

DD is almosts 4 and we still use our gate at the top of the stairs and also one in the hallway at nighttime. (don't want her roaming around and going into the kitchen if she ever got up in the middle of the night) The only locks that we have on our cabinets is the one under the sink with all the cleaning supplies.

No stairs in my home so never gates. Stopped locking cabinets pretty early- but that was because DD was never one to go get into things she shouldn't. She was always very cautious and well behaved when it came to stuff like that.
Every kid is different though and I imagine boys are more adventurous than girls!

I would say around 3 for my older 2 we stopped locking and gating things. DS #3 we never locked a cabinet. We had a gate leaning across the top of the stairs until maybe 2 the latest. #4 is to small for anything yet and if he is anything like #3 nothing will be locked

we have a 3 year old. if we did not also have a baby about to start crawling we would have removed the gate at the bottom of the stairs atleast 6 months ago, but we left it cause of the baby, we just never close it... YET!

I get nervous about DS getting out of bed and falling down the stairs, so that one will stay there for quite some time!

never used locks on cabinets.
just told him over and over and over again not to touch.
we had a gate for about a week, until my bff decided to jump over it and took it down with a piece of the wall. LOL
didn't bother putting it back up. DS was fine.

We stopped using locks and gates around 2.5 yo with our son. But are using them again once we had DD.

We have a gate at the end of the hallway mainly because I don't want the dogs in the girls room. All of our chemicals are locked up but I doubt we really need it my kids know not to touch any of that. The locks don't bother me at all so I'll leave them for now. My girls are 5 & 3.

My twins are 5 and my youngest 3.5. We still have a gate at the top of the stairs just because I don't want them going downstairs if they wake up in the middle of the night. And we still have a gate between our kitchen and livingroom to keep them out of the fridge a million times a day.

We never used gates or cabinet locks. I keep all cleaning materials in the basement, so that wasn't a concern for me. He had one cabinet full of Tupperware that he was allowed to play in and we just kept redirecting him to that cabinet if he showed interest in any of the others.

Now that we've renovated the house and we all sleep on the second floor, we are considering a gate for the top of the stairs when the new baby becomes mobile, but we're not sure yet.
