Lent

So Lent started today and I have no idea what to give up or add as my "sacrifice".

Don't feel like doing the generic no chocolate, no alcohol, etc. or adding more prayer, a bible study.

i want it to be a bit more meaningful but not sure what to do.

Anyone have some good ideas?

Try giving up negativity: negative thoughts, words, people, etc.
I have done that before and feel like it really makes a difference.

On a side note, totally forgot about Ash Wednesday and have a pork roast with sauerkraut in the crock pot. Chat Icon

that lasted about an hour after i got my ashes. then a co-worker in texas started asking dumb questions, my boss just left without saying anything, and half my online programs refused to work.

needless to say, i've been very very mean since lunch! Chat Icon

I defrosted chicken cutlets! Luckily they're still partially frozen so I'm thinking they'll keep for tomorrow.

I am going to try to be more patient. It will probably last until tonight but I'm giving it a shot!

Although I am Jeiwsh I have an idea.

You are looking for something meaningful.

No technology/cell/ipad/whatever after X time in the house.

Have family TV night.

The goal is not to be distracted by technology and be more family focused.

Read, watch TV as a family. Make dinner as a family. Play games. Just stay away from the mindless cell browsing, ipad games , computer numbness.

Its something that is hard to do, but can bring a really great family dynamic. DH and I have been doing this Friday nights. Family fun night we call it :)

Lent

My mom shared this on FB earlier...

No need to throw out the chocolate, booze, and carbs. Pope Francis has a different idea for fasting. . According to Francis, fasting must never become superficial. So, if we’re going to fast from anything this Lent, Francis suggests that even more than candy or alcohol, we fast from indifference towards others.
When we fast from this indifference, we can began to feast on love. In fact, Lent is the perfect time to learn how to love again.-2015

Re: Lent

I grew up in a family that never gave up anything for Lent. Instead, we were encouraged to make a change of some sort or do good deeds: spend time each day to write a letter to someone, set aside money each day to donate to a charity, community service, tell someone you care about them..

I really like this.

I know a girl that's giving up social media. I know because she made an exaggerated post on FB yesterday Chat Icon

This is what DH and I are doing. We haven't had a just spend time together night in months. We're going to take Sunday nights and spend time with DS and do whatever we want as a family.
