Tablet for 5 year old?

I got DD a Leap Pad last year and was pretty disappointed with it. She quickly grew bored of the games it came with and I discovered that buying a new game for it could cost as much as $20 to $30, aside from a few that they would have on sale. I didn't realize it was such an investment after I already paid over $100 for it.

Does anyone recommend a tablet for a 5 year old that would be better? Do any of them come with more games or at least offer less expensive add ons? A year later, she rarely touches it. Such a waste.

When my DD was 5 she got the Kindle Fire tablet, the one with the bigger screen like an Ipad. She's 7 now and still LOVES it. We can load apps onto it for her plus we pay monthly (I think $1.99) for Kindle Free Time so she has access to thousands of books, games, videos, etc through Amazon and there are NO in app purchases or inappropriate content to worry about. She can choose whatever she wants right on her tablet and we don't have to stress. It's a great little tablet, perfect for a younger child.

Thanks for the review, I was actually looking at that one. It definitely sounds better than the Leap Pad!

It is. My DD had a LeapPad too and I agree with you, the games are SO expensive and she just wasn't as into it as I had hoped. She always loved my Ipad so for her, when she got the LeapPad it was a bit of a disappointment.
