Rockefeller tree w a 3 year old?
Would it be worth the trip in to the city at that age? I think dd would like to see the tree, and she's never been to the city before. But is it really tough with a toddler in a stroller in the cold and with all the crowds? Any other toddler friendly things to do or see in that area? I'll be 20 weeks pregnant by the time we would go, so I'm sure I won't be up for a lot of walking.
Eta: we'd be going on a a weekday if that makes any difference with the crowds.

Re: Rockefeller tree w a 3 year old?
We did with our DD at that age, actually I think she was even a little younger the first time we took her in. But we did take her to see the tree around 3 and we managed just fine in the city with the stroller. And she LOVED seeing the tree and all of the Xmas decorations. It was worth the trip in!

Re: Rockefeller tree w a 3 year old?
I am a city person - Lived in midtown, still work here .....LOVE it and come in to hang out any chance I get - The tree and Bryant Park are one of my favorite things to do ........I'm not doing it again w/ the kids until they're older - maybe next year at 5/7 - but probably not even then
We tried a few times to bring the kids in - it is a complete sh*tshow over there, crowds are out of control - and people are disgusting - People were actually STEPPING OVER MY SON IN THE STROLLER when he was 2 .......We looked at the tree did an about face, and left. I almost lost my mind -
We did it during the day one year with both of the boys ........crowds were a little better - but the effect of the tree isn't the same at all -
I'd skip it and go to one of the LI trees instead - same effect for your DD at that age.

I agree. I almost feel unsafe in those kind of crowds. Especially with a child. And then you look at the tree- wow, so nice, so pretty- then what? All that hassle and pushing through crowds - for a few minutes? I agree that one of the Long Island trees will give the same effect at that age- for a LOT LOT LOT less stress and hassle
ETA- i would NOT bring a stroller there. No way

i agree about the crowds and it not being safe. At that age, they will enjoy seeing any large tree with lights. I would save yourself the hassle and go somewhere on LI.

Rockefeller tree w a 3 year old?
Most towns have a big tree lighting ceremony. Huntington, Northport I know do. Cold spring hatchery has one. At 3 every tree is huge.

We went last year with a 2&4 year old. We booked a restaurant in the area, saw the crowds & the tree & then ate. I really don't think it is worth it, but we went with friends who wanted to go.

I would go at like 5am if you are going to see the tree. It will still be lit up, and no crowds!

Re: Rockefeller tree w a 3 year old?
Do they still have the tree at EAB Plaza (or what used to be EAB plaza) in Uniondale?

We go ever year - Then we walk down 6th avenue and see all the decorations. Yes it can be difficult but it is something I love to see and bring the kids to.

Re: Rockefeller tree w a 3 year old?
We brought our 3 year old with a stroller. It was really crowded as it was in the 70's in December and everyone was out. As long as you are patient, you will be fine. She will love it.

Thanks, this is exactly what I'm afraid of. DH and I used to go every year, and I couldn't stand the crowds and everyone pushing, and that was without a kid in stroller. I'm leaning more towards going to EAB plaza now instead.

Rockefeller tree w a 3 year old?
DH & I went every year before kids, and have been twice since becoming parents in 2011. It is fun and we love it but we will not be going again until the kids are older- like when my oldest, who is 4, is 8 or 9. Just not worth it and they don't appreciate it that young anyway. It is usually bitterly cold, there are 1,000,000 people bottlenecked into a tiny area, and the kids- well at least my kids- were bored. We love taking our kids into the city but will limit it to spring/summer for now.

Rockefeller tree w a 3 year old?
We went a few days after Christmas. Saw the tree, went in the Lego store, went to FAO Schwarz and the Disney store. DH and I grabbed a panini at a great stand inside one of the Trump buildings for lunch. It was very crowded but it's the city during the holidays so we expected it.
As far as the actual tree lighting, you couldn't pay me enough to go in to see that.

Oh yeah, I should have clarified, I meant Just to see the tree after its been lit. I would never ever consider going in for the lighting.
I should have also added that we'd be going on a weekday since my DH works weekends. Is it any less crowded during the week?
