My morning complaint - the reply-all email

I got an email today that has close to 60 people on it. Most of whom I don't know. It was a solicitation for chipping in on a gift (for someone I do know).

I have now received 30+ emails that say "I'm in!"

Why can't people just privately reply?!??? So freaking annoying that every 5 minutes im getting a pop-up email from someone I don't know! Chat Icon

Ok. I need my coffee. I'm cranky.

Re: My morning complaint - the reply-all email

That is annoying. I'll give it to you. Unless it pertains to everyone why "reply all"?!

But usually on the group text (for me, at least), I know everyone. If I didnt, that would annoy me too!!!

Re: My morning complaint - the reply-all email

OMG i HATE this!
Hate!

I get over 200 emails a day as it is, and the last thing I need is 100 more with people saying, Thanks! or Congrats!

Sometimes we'll send out a group email welcoming a new employee to the team or congratulating someone who just had a baby or got a promotion.

Then follows the 400 Congrats! or Welcome aboard!'s

When replying all, you really have to think that there are several people on there, some of a very high level in the company who do NOT need to see your one word replies.

Just THINK before hitting send!

My morning complaint - the reply-all email

I HATE it. I don't need 60 freaking emails saying Welcome aboard. Email the person directly. How hard is that. I don't know why common sense is so difficult.

Next on my pet peeves is internal people who try and schedule meetings on top of my scheduled meetings. You can see in Outlook that time is blocked, no I am not free I can not attend your dumb meeting. Or it is clearly coded I'm pto. No I cannot attend your 2 hour meeting at 11am on my day off.

OMG I'm in the same type of group email right now. I got another email from it seconds ago! There's no way to opt out of this thing and it won't DIE.

#firstworldproblems I know, but seriously it's becoming a nightmare. It's been going on for DAYS! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I hate that. We usually get them when someone accidentally sends something to an internal group that was set up by our travel dept.

Then everyone replies all stating this wasn't meant for me.

Then you get the people who start replying to all to tell people to stop replying to all.

I was in a meeting one time and checked my phone to see that I had 60 messages. I panicked at first and then was annoyed it was just a reply all fiasco.

My morning complaint - the reply-all email

I questioned something (unethical) that my boss did and accidentally hit reply all (taking away a client because his wife claimed she was supposed to work with them) and they both ganged up on me also hitting reply all - it was a shit show that made them look so bad.

Luckily I don't work there anymore!

My morning complaint - the reply-all email

I HATE massive group texts. I have one friend who does them with like 10-15 people, and I want to throw my phone in the toilet when it happens.

Equally annoying is when someone doesn't replay all when they should!
This happens at my job all the time.
5 people are included on an email for a reason: everyone needs an update on something. For 1 person , to say, OK, I took care of it, doesn't help out the other people who need to know if it was taken care of.

I don't think it is that hard to know when to reply & when not to, but apparently there is an art to it. Chat Icon

My morning complaint - the reply-all email

My previous company was HUGE (+100K employees) and every once in a while someone would send a group email to the "wrong" group - and then HUNDREDS of people would feel the need to Reply-All that the message shouldn't have gone to them - REALLY do you need to send your response to EVERYONE!!!! And then people would start sending Reply-All messages saying "Please stop sending Reply-All messages that the original email wasn't for you"!!!! It was so out of control, it was "almost" funny

This happens every once in awhile at my company. It is hysterical! and so embarrassing for the people doing it. But my coworkers and I always get a big kick out of it.

I once had a girl, who THINKS she is SUCH a professional, reply all to a group email exchange that got out of hand with "UNSUBSCRIBE!"

It was hysterical

I honestly never understood why so many people do this.

This also irritates the $hit outta me; coffee or not.
