a holiday gift question... i'm TOTALLY stumped
my christmas list is almost done. yes, i'm one of those people.
but i have three gifts that i'm TOTALLY stumped on.
it's really two questions because two are the "same."
i have two young couples. they live together and have been together for a couple of years. the thing is that neither couple lives on their own. they both live with one of the sets of parents. so it's not like i can buy/make them something to decorate their living room or such. what on earth can i get them?
the other question is for SO's mom. she's 72, lives with us. she had a brain tumor, which was operated on... but this has left her without much going on. it's hard for her to move around unassisted, and ALL she ever wants to do is complain about life and watch tv. she has no hobbies, no real interests. i'm completely at a loss as to what to get this woman. ps. she's already starting to give away her possessions (as though she's preparing for death) so i don't want to get her more junk/stuff.
help. thanks

For the first two couples gift cards to local restaurants so they can go out to eat. For the other, a warm blanket or a new bathrobe.

Does your SO's mom have a favorite show? My mom is the same age and is addicted to Law and Order. So every year I get her a few seasons on DVD (there are 20). She loves to watch them over and over again.

is she interested in learning how to knit? What about giving her some of your time (and the tools) and teaching her? I assume, based on your name, that you're a knitter lol. If not, then this makes NO sense.

I agree with restaurant gift cards for the couples. And I would make a nice blanket for SO mother.

For the young couples, do they drink? Maybe a wine basket with a couple of wine glasses, and accessories (cute bottle stoppers, cocktail napkins). You can spend as much or as little as you want.
I also think the gift card to a restaurant is a great idea.
If you prefer to give something tangible, and the wine gift basket won't work, what about something like a movie gift basket -- movie theater gift card and different candy/popcorn in a basket?
For your SO's mom - who is ill and elderly - does she still eat normally? I made a breakfast gift basket for an elderly great aunt once.... teas/coffees/jams/biscuits/cereal/etc. Or if she spends a lot of time on the couch watching tv, maybe a nice knit or cashmere throw blanket and some slippers?

maybe the elderly woman would like a blanket to be warm and cuddly with while watching her tv shows? knit her something and give a treat she likes and package it as a for your tv viewing enhancement type thing.
for the other couples, def. gift cards for food.

thanks!!
wonderful ideas. i know one of the couples has a favorite sushi place that has gift cards. i'll have to do a little snooping for the other couple.
for SO's mom. i could make her something... maybe a shawl for sitting and watching tv (she already has a favorite blanket) and some tv watching goodies.
ok, all is right with my christmas list again
