Can anyone recommend a pediatric allergist? Do I need to see the pediatrician first? Our plan doesn't require referrals.
I want to have DD tested for some food allergies.
Thanks!

Do allergy tests work on young kids?

We took DD (when she was 8 months) to the allergist due to her eczema and she got a prick test done.

Someone told me afterwards that blood tests, prick tests, basically any allergy test won't work on young kids.

False positives and negatives they said.

My son started seeing the allergist at 2 yo. We suspected a nut allergy. Ped ran a blood test at 2yo, came back positive. Allergist ran a skin test at 2.5yo and still positive. Now we will go every year for repeat skin tests.

Thanks! I made an appt at the Commack office for tomorrow!
DD is almost 14 months.
She has a hugely varied diet. She is suffering from GI upset and terrible constipation. As an infant she was on Alimentum formula for milk protein allergy. All of this started when we switched to milk. She's not been off of milk for a while and it's not resolving.
Before I go back to GI (and he ends up sending us to an allergist) and putting her on Miralax I'd rather investigate a bit. We went down the Miralax route with our first and while it helped so much and solved so many issues I'd rather avoid if I can.

Another recommendation for Dr. Strauss (we go to Westbury). Although, we will be looking into OIT (peanut desensitization) next year with Dr. Shah in Centereach.

We found out about DS' peanut allergy when he was 15 months old (we gave him pb to test for an allergy - thankfully it was a slight reaction!). They did blood and scratch tests and confirmed his allergy - which is confirmed each year with tests. Although, Dr. Strauss told us that he doesn't see the benefit of blood/scratch tests each year so he didn't get it at his last appt.
