Are snowsuits necessary for baby?

My daughter is 6 months old and has a Uppababy Mesa car seat that snaps into her stroller. I just bought a car seat cover that has a blanket inside (think jolly jumper artic) because I know babies aren't supposed to wear anything thick under the car seat straps for safety reasons. However, do I also need a separate snowsuit? Is it necessary? When would I use it?

First time mom, would appreciate the advice!

I don't think so. It's not like your DD will be playing in the snow. DS will be 1 and I am not getting him a snow suit til next year when he is walking and can really go out in the snow.

You will need something for the cold weather.
Probably no snow play... But you will need to get to car & back as the kid grows (it's a long winter here)

Re: Are snowsuits necessary for baby?

You'd only use it if she were to be outside w/o the car seat or long periods of time (ie in regular stroller seat, if you had to take her out to feed her, or if you were spending a long day outside like a day in the city and wanted more than just the car seat cover, etc). I just had the inexpensive fleece snowsuit from carters that did the trick for the handful of uses.

Nope.
They can't wear them in the carseat anyway so when would they really wear it?
Unless you live in tbe the city and walk everywhere instead of driving

Definitely not at that age and when she gets bigger look for hand me downs or thrift shops. They are so expensive for something they may use once or twice

Thanks guys! Seems like she won't need one. Wasn't sure as she will be almost a year old by the time winter is over. Was confused because they're sold and not sure when people use them. Maybe for babies that have moved over to umbrella stroller.

Are snowsuits necessary for baby?

Dd has one-I used it mainly when we played in the snow. My dd loved being pulled on her little sled. Other than that I did not use the snow pants (I bought dd a two piece set)-we used the jacket for walks.

May I ask how old your DD was at the time? Assume she was over a year old if she could sit in a sled? Thanks!

On walks, was she in a stroller that did not have a car seat component?

My dd was 9 or 10 months old when I purchased the snow suit. The sled my dd has is plastic and designed for a child that can sit up but it has a molded plastic seat and a seat belt. We pulled her along--she did not go down hill sledding. In the stroller I did not always use the infant seat-I have the city mini gt and by the time dd was about six months old we used the stiller without the seat and she was safe and comfortable. I used the weather shield as well.

I bought DD a snowsuit last year. She was 9 months in December. Such a waste. She used it once.

I agree with this. None of my kids had snow suits until they were 2. but we're not a play in the snow type of family, lol.

Re: Are snowsuits necessary for baby?

You usually cant use them in the car seat so unless you plan to bring them outside then no. We were given one so I put them in once for a quick pic outside in the snow. Other than that we never used it. It was a Patagonia fleece so we could have bc it was thin enough for car seat. But we just used a fleece jacket, blanket over and the jj cole that goes over the carseat.

My daughter had one of those one piece zippered fleecy thing with hood to keep her warm. You can find them second hand at savers. She was 7-9 months old and there was no need for a waterproof suit.

We only used dd's snowsuit once to take her in the snow for a few minutes.
