Please help!!!! DS is 10 months old, has 2 bottom teeth and his 2 fangs coming in (no middle top teeth yet). He's such a great kid, incredibly happy, always well-behaved, we bring him everywhere. For the last month and a half, he began this screaming phase. Happy, angry, bored, he screams. In the morning, it's not so bad, but at night, when DH is around, it's terrible. I can't take it!!! I'm afraid our neighbors are going to call CPS on us, he is so loud I'm sure you can hear him a block away. You take a toy away, he screams, you move him away from the dangerous fan, he screams. I don't know what to do!!!!! I feel like the terrible twos have started a year early! I'm sure he's in pain, but it's not always because he is upset, sometimes he does it when happy, or just to make noise. I know he does it at daycare too, they just say he is finding his voice (which I am sure is true, testing the waters a bit). But I seriously need it to stop, lol. I really am nervous someone is going to call the cops one day thinking we are torturing the poor kid.

I don't really have any advice but I would love to see what other parents here recommend. DS has been doing the exact same thing for a while now. When he first started doing it, it wasn't that loud and it was cute. He would do it mostly because he was excited or happy. I couldn't help but smile and laugh. I think that really encouraged him because now he won't stop and it's become this high pitched screeching. Hopefully this phase will end soon

It's for attention. My son is 19 months and still does it. If he gets out of control with it I put my finger on his mouth (like shushing him) and say "no!" And redirect him.

He'll probably grow out of it. They are finding their voices at that age. DS2 is 9 months and screams a lot (mostly when he gets things taken away). We just distract him with another toy or tell him to stop crying and it usually works. I also find that interacting with him when he's babbling (but not screaming) reinforces that that's appropriate behavior!

DD is almost 3 and just started screaming recently. She isn't crying, just screaming. She will randomly scream something while we are out, like in a restaurant. And she sings VERY loudly. She loves to sing. It's causing a problem with DD2's naps.

omg Jess, do you live next door to me!! my neighbors child would scream like that. His mom would jokingly, say "you would think I was beating him the way he screams over everything"

I agree. He's findig his voice. Literally. It's a phase.
Def nothing like terrible twos. Lol. Just you wait for those tantrums and arched back, thrashing around the floor.

We called that the baby pterodactly(sp?) phase! She would screechin this high shrill pitchy voice that would make your ears ring. At first we shushed her and tried to tell her not to but she thought it was funny. Once we began to ignore it she stopped. It was a phase.

Lol, dh calls my lo pterodactyl all the time bc of her screaming!

We are going through the same thing however this "phase" is lasting very long. Started at 10 months and he turns 17 months next week. People turn and stare all the time.
