Southwest Airlines
Anyone fly with them? I've noticed that their prices are a lot lower.

Re: Southwest Airlines
Honestly, I hate Southwest. I hate the open seating and the check in that gives you a boarding section. I'd rather have a set seat, especially with 3 kids. That said, if they are considerably cheaper and we're flying to somewhere we can go nonstop from islip, we often use them.

Re: Southwest Airlines
Yes. They are great in that they fly out of Islip- which is awesome since I live 5 min from that airport and it's a dream.
The thing I don't like is- no asssigned seating. So you get on like a cattle call and have to just grab any seat. If you are travelling with others and want to sit together it can be challenging.
It's bascially like getting on the LIRR and just finding a seat.
I paid for early bird check in- it was like $12 more a seat and they check you in automatically at 36 hours before the flight. Everyone else has to check themselves in at the 24 hour mark.
So the early bird gives you a much better chance of getting an "A" boarding position- which means you get on the plane first and have a better chance of picking a better seat.
They give you one free checked bag each- which is nice. Free snacks.
Free wifi on some planes
Overall the flight was fine, the crew nice, we had a new plane. No issues there.

Southwest Airlines
I have flown them once and had a horrible experience since there is no assigned seating. My husband works in the industry and refuses to fly with them.

Re: Southwest Airlines
My DH and I wanted to go to NOLA but direct flights are close to $900. With Southwest it's coming out to $550.00 but it's connecting flights. I hate that we have a possibility of not seating together.

Re: Southwest Airlines
We flew once and it was fine. Since we had kids, they let us board and pick seats early on.
DH once flew with them without us and he got last pick. He did not like that at all.
I personally would rather have assigned seats.

Love SW because its 15 minutes away!! Despise that they have raised their prices DRAMATICALLY, especially over school breaks.

Do early bird check in- $12 each and you are pretty much guaranteed an A boarding pass
I did it to Florida and we all got seats together- and on the way down we got the first seats with the extra leg room!
So worth it!

All of this. I recently flew with them to Atlanta (February and June) and I had no complaints at all.

Re: Southwest Airlines
We had a good experience with them and we flew with two kids. DEFINTELY pay for early bird check in, it's SO worth it. They automatically check you in and we always get "A" boarding, usually in the upper teens/early twenties. We had no problems getting seats together.

Re: Southwest Airlines
We are using them this fall....we couldn't beat the price, times, AND it's a nonstop flight! I too like the free bags.
I hope it goes smoothly with seats together, or the plane will hate hearing my kids calling to me for 5 hours.

I feel like their prices are really high! Espcially for no seat assignments or anything.

I fly them all the time to Fla and their prices have increased dramatically. Even in advance a bit, sky high prices from LI to Fla. I will say though, they let you change flights for free and free baggage so given that, it's ok.
