Size help going from infant to toddler clothing

For those of you who have recently made the switch from infant to toddler clothing, how long did your LO wear them? Did you find they grew out of 2T or even 3T as quickly as they did with infant sizes?
Right now DD is wearing 24 months but they are swimming on her until I wash them a few times. According to most size charts she should be just entering 12-18m in weight and just ending 12-18m in height. I plan to buy 2T for the fall. There is some stuff I would love to pick up now for next summer but I don't know if she will still be 2T or 3T. Any experiences to share on how quickly your LO grew out of the clothes?

At this age, kids only gain about 4-5 pounds a year. My DD stays in a size for about 10 months. I bought her 4T for the summer and I'll buy her 4T clothes again for the fall and expect all of it to fit her just fine in the spring.

I've found that some osh kosh and Carter's 24 mo and 2 t are exact when held up. Mostly dresses. Same length. I think it depends on each kid. My girls are in 2 t still at almost 3. I did buy 3 t pants though bc the 2 t shrunk and or got short.

2T is the next size up from 24 mo in most places (longer).
I found that my kids both were wearing 2T at around 1 year old & still wore it till 2& 3 & some things (a polo shirt) even fit at 5 yrs old. At 2, they start growing long & lean (so tummy size stops growing, pants will fit but are too short).

Honestly, with growth spurts & leg length it is really hard for me to buy stuff for this fall. DS fits very differently into pants (he's skinny) vs shirts (he has a broad chest).

There is also a huge variation in how things wash.
I found my stuff from target shrank to an unusable size in 2 washes. Some girl gap stuff too. I buy mostly gymboree, which doesn't shrink at all & washes well (stains come out).

I always heard that infant sizes have room for a diaper. I forget where I heard that.

Awe, B my little peanut. Dd has been in 2t and 3t (depending on brands) for awhile. It will def last you a long time.

My DS2 is 22 months now and wearing 2T. I expect that he'll be in 3T next summer. I could never buy ahead for my DS1 bc he continued to grow quickly through at least 2.5 yrs. It wasn't until he was 4.5 that he was size 5 years at Gap (toddler size) and was able to wear that size through age 5.5 Now he's almost 6 and up in size again and is a 5 boys at Gap and 6 at Carters.

I've never been one to buy ahead.

Every child is different and will gain weight and grow in height at different times. I believe our DD's are a couple of weeks a part...my DD is wearing a 3T and will be 2 in August. My DH is 6'7" so she takes after him lol

At this age I think it's too hard to determine what size she will be next summer. DD grew 3 inches and gained 2lbs in 3 months so there is no way I could tell what she will be next summer.

Once my DD got out of the infant sizes, she's been tending to stay in each toddler size for a long time before moving on to the next. I would say a little less than a year.
