I loathe their design. Getting a straw in is impossible for most kids. I would get a box juice box instead.

To answer your question Capri Sun is FINE for a birthday party of 4 year olds! And like someone else said, READ the labels !! MANY MANY MANY compaines you would assume are 'crap' are not! and 90% of those 'all natural' blah blah pouches and jiuce boxes are just juice diluted with a ton of water - so you're basically paying a premium for a watered down product.

For all of those people who NEVER let your child have jiuce of any kind of 'high fructose corn syrup' etc etc - I totally understand not being the one to BUY these things and feed them to your children on a regualr basis, but what do you do when your kids go to parties? Tell them they're not allowed to eat a cupcake?

Yes!!! Or maybe it's just me! Just yesterday at a dinner party someone gave my DS one and it took me like 5 minutes to try to open it. My MIL was like "oh DS had one of those last week and he can open it himself just fine". Chat Icon Chat Icon so apparently my 3 years old could open it on the first try but I still can't.

They have definitely changed their ingredients. They used to have HFCS in them, never offered a "100% juice option",etc. when my 16 year old was younger. I've always equated them to garbage, but admit I don't keep up with brand changes since I don't buy them ;) I have to laugh at the fact that they promote the roaring waters one as having "no artificial ingredients" in them, but yet there is fake sugar in it (I just googled that product to be sure)

Is it weird that I like to drink them? DH loves them.

DD- 14m hasn't had juice and we won't be giving her juice for a long time.

How about Honest Kids instead. Same concept just seems better. I guess...?

I buy them and keep them in my house for when company comes over. My daughter didn't have one until she was probably 3, but I think everything in moderation is just fine.

I get the roaring waters one for parties. Less sugar for the lil critters to bounce around on. For DD she is only 18months I get Motts for Tots or A&E Fruit waters.

Re: What age for Capri sun?

I think it's totally fine to have as an option as long as you have water as an option as well. Also, I do agree with the others - if you are having a big party these are a huge PIA. I think most kids that age can handle a juice box themselves but I don't know too many that can get a straw into those pouches on their own.

Well, I wound up getting honest kids since they were on sale. It was like a 10 cent different between honest and capri sun. Parents will be there to help put the straws in.

I don't normally buy these things. DS gets maybe 3 juice boxes a week and water, but I was trying to keep the funds low for a party considering how many I had to buy. You ladies definitely made me laugh!

I started buying them last year at 3. She doesn't drink them on the regular, but occasionally, and she gets them at parties and BBQ's. I usually buy the Honest Brand if I buy them.

Re: What age for Capri sun?

I used to buy the Roaring Waters ones until I realized while they contain less sugar they contain artificial sweetner!!
So now i dont care what brand as long as it's 100% juice. I would rather DS have juice than artificial sweetners!

I actually choked a little on my tea. Too funny.

I won't buy it b/c I don't like giving my kids all that sugar, but as a treat at a party, imo it's fine.

Re: What age for Capri sun?

I remember when I was little struggling to get that flucking straw in the opening and having to get the EXACT angle correct -- and if you were a HAIR off, then it wouldn't go. ARGH!!! And then, finally, you think you have it and you STAB the straw through and it not only goes into the opening but punctures the back of the pouch too and goes straight through both sides.

YES! I still can't do it right. I make DH do it if he is around.
I usually stab it straight through and the juice comes pouring out like a hole in a dam! Then I have to pour it in a cup!

So annoying

I still can't get the straw through. I have to ask DH to do it. And if he's not around, oh well..no juice.

I think it's fine. Honestly, it's not a drink I'd ever suggest to a parent for their kid's daily lunches since it's not one of the better choices. In fact, one of my fav doctors just posted an article about a month ago on how these kinds of juices are equivalent to giving your kid a soda, sugar/health-wise. Since I wouldn't let my DD drink a soda, I wouldn't let her drink those either. HOWEVER, for a birthday party I wouldn't get too anal. They're probably already having other sweets like cake and/or ice cream, maybe even candies, etc, so what's some sugary juice added into the mix gonna hurt? lol. It's a party. Everything in moderation.

The Honest brand aren't any better. I stab it with a knife to get the straw in, but my 2.5 yo DDs squeeze them all over Chat Icon solution? Cut with a scissor and pour into 2 cups, then at least I can dilute with water.

To answer a pp's question about juice, sugar etc....
In my house I give them water, the healthiest organic and most balanced food possible. When we go out or to grandma's, no restrictions. I'm not going to deny them Carvel at auntie's house. Did I cringe when they ate it? Yes, but it's once in awhile. Just not in my home or from me. So yes, they're having the HFCS-laden crap at a birthday party.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My DH LOVED Ecto Cooler!! A friend of ours use to always have it in her house and when we were in high school EVERY time we were there he'd drink it all AND eat all of her Pop-Tarts too!! Chat Icon I loved Tang, pure sugar mixed with water!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

As for juice, my kids don't really drink juice, they are huge water drinkers. However, on the occasion that I do buy juice boxes I buy the Adam and Eve Fruitables.
