The non-stop kid!
I was wondering...does anyone else have a kid who is just non-stop? I know all kids (especially under 5) are active etc., but my daughter is 3 1/2 and literally NEVER slows down. My husband and I have no idea how she keeps going and going, it's like she can't sit still. It could be 8:00 at night and after a full day she'll still be jumping on the couch or running around our living room like a wild woman. I actually think when she's tired she's even more hyper. At school she's pretty much a permanent resident at the time-out table.
Do they ever slow down?

The non-stop kid!
Mine is like this. I watch my nephews and they stop and settle down my dd never stops. Even when she is eating she is bouncing around in her seat. Daycare suggested we sign her up for the extra sports at school because she is just a bundle of non stop energy

Re: The non-stop kid!
My almost 21 mo is like this too. I joke around that the only time she's calm and peaceful is when she's sleeping!! DH likes to remind me that it's better she's active than a bump on a log

The non-stop kid!
My DS is like that. Monday was so bad my DH asked if daycare gave them speed. DS came home from daycare and spent an hour in the park running and it still didn't slow him down.
And the mouth......going non stop and I try to get him to slow that down cause his brain is going to fast for his mouth.

The non-stop kid!
I am so glad that I came across this post! I was going to post something similar myself yesterday and didn't get around to it because my daughter is just like you described and it was starting to worry me! DD is almost 3.5 -- She cannot even sit still while eating or pooping. Apparently during circle time she always has either her hands in her pants, lifting up her shirt, taking off her shoes. She just cannot stand still! It definitely gets worse when she is overtired - she will start bouncing around- but that I blame on delirium. She is also non stop with the mouth-- talking, putting things IN it, wanting to eat, and sucking her thumb and playing with her fingers (which is actualy the only time she calms down and is uusually when she is watching tv). To be honest, I am not sure if these are signs of high energy or some sign of an inability to focus--- but I was thinking of trying to limit any sugar intake/ and eliminate food dyes from her diet to see if that would help! She is still young so hopefully she grows out of it but I worry about what happens if she doesn't change and how she will be able to concentrate in school once she starts kindergarten

A million years ago in the 90's my aunt made changes to my 3 boy cousins diets. No dyes/limited sugar and she did a modified zone diet with them. Like each meal made sure they had even-ish portions of fats, carbs and proteins. She saw a huge difference. They were really wild and had trouble in school sitting still and concentrating. Now they're all in their 20s and pretty normal. She would definitely say she had success with diet modification. The oldest was even on medication and she managed to ween him off fully. He is a teacher now and pretty relaxed and chill.
I think some kids are just more high energy than others. When I was 3 I had a bit of energy and dance class wasn't quite for me (as the teacher told my mom) I was better suited for gymnastics something a little more high powered and that let me get my energy out. My parents say it helped.

Thanks Leb. I am going to try the modified diet too. Apparently according to my mom and her friends I was a handful as a kid too. I have DD in dance and soccer-- I agree I wish I had signed her up for gymnastics rather than dance!

I was going to sign my daughter up for gymnastics also and then I remembered that karate is supposed to be really good for high energy kids. Isn't it supposed to teach them self-control and discipline? I wish classes weren't so expensive once they hit 3!

Re: The non-stop kid!
My dd has always been this way. Like at 6 weeks couldn't stop moving. We had to swaddle her or she's wake herself up. We did just get an ADHD diagnoses. And it is worse when she's tired.

Re: The non-stop kid!
My DS is "ON" from the minute he wakes up to the minute he falls asleep.
Not jumping on furniture or anything (bc we don't let him...he would if he could) but always on the move or getting into something.
BUT when I put him in bed he goes right to sleep and looks like a little angel.

The non-stop kid!
That is my 2.5 year old daughter too! It can be her bedtime and dh are on the couch too tired to get up to start her bedtime routine, but dd is bouncing around the living room, twirling and singing, putting on a show for us I'm always wondering how she has so much energy!

This is 2 out of 3 of my kids. Non stop running, jumping around like monkeys. It could be bedtime and they are still going. My other child will relax every so often and when it's time for bed h gets right in and goes to sleep. I wish I had half the energy they had!

Re: The non-stop kid!
DS2 is like this. It could be 9 p.m. and he's still running around like crazy. He has so much energy. My older one wasn't like this. I'm looking forward to the day when DS2 is calmer.
