Projectile spit up help

DD is almost 3 weeks old. She just projectile spit up literally across the room. She has been having some issues with gas but not all day. Her ped said as long as it's not for long periods of time that she's crying, which she not. This is the first time she spit up like that. I was in the bedroom and DH was feeding her in another room and I heard her spit up all the way in the bedroom.

She only drank 2 oz of formula and probably spit it all up. Should I call the dr now? What am I supposed to do for her feedings over night?

The issues with gas, is it at night? Does she wake up uncomfortable? Up often or for long stretches with gas and unconfortable? When was the last time she ate?

if its the first time she ever spit up like that i wouldnt panic... i know its very scary. It had happened to my dd when she was an infant and i totally freaked out and was scared. But it does happen.

I wouldnt call ped just yet. She may have just been extra gassy. Continue to feed throughout the night. If it continues then call ped may be as simple as just a formula change. GL

Just wanted to add too, did dh burp her? If he didnt that could have caused the spit up as well.

I find it happens every once In a while when they are that little. If it's not a constant thing don't worry. Their systems are still adjusting, I would not call the dr unless it continues. Continue feeding as normal.

I'd elevate her when feeding if you aren't doing that.

Thanks ladies. Her gas issues are at any time not just at night. It's not all day just a couple times a day and it's not inconsolable crying. I've been giving her gas drops after every feeding as well and they seem to help a little. She also sleeps alot which I'm pretty sure is normal, she'll wake just to eat. DH was in the process of burping her when she spit up. I just fed her now and she did ok. No spit up and she burped so hopefully it was a one time thing!

Dd did that around that age every other day- PED changed her formula and she did great (until 7 months, but that's a whole other story).

My DS spit up a lot and I mean a lot until about 6 months. He had some gas and cried sometimes but not all the time. I kept telling my doctor and he is said long as he isn't arching back or screaming constantly it's okay. He was literally a happy spitter. It was constant though. I would go though bibs all day. I'd have to travel with an extra shirt for myself. My pediatrician warned me against playing the formula game. My cousin in a pediatric GI doc and also said it can be normal.

Thank you all. I called the ped just for piece of mind. He said as long as she's not doing it all day after every feeding it's normal. He said she might have had excess gas and that's what caused it.

Keep on eye on it. My son had that when he was 5 weeks, and I turned out to be pyloric stenosis, and it had to be corrected with surgery.

DS2 was a projectile vomiter. He needed to be burped 4x every 2oz and even then you weren't completely safe. He grew out of it around 2 months. Burp her a lot!!!
