Projectile spit up

My DS who is 11.5 weeks ususally never spits up (he has a total of 5 times since he was born). Well tonight as I was feeding him his last bottle he drank about 5 of the 7 oz, sat up burped and then the spit up started pouring out of his mouth. He was pretty much sleeping while drinking the bottle but he does that all the time and I never had an issue. I gave him another bath and now he is sleeping. Do you think he will wake up starving? I think he spit up all 5 oz. My question is...why do you think this happend?? I'm so upset...I hope he is not sick....

I think he just ate too much too fast, and swallowed too much air.

5 oz is a lot for a 3 mo old to handle

When he spit up did it have distance or did it just come out of his mouth and all over him. Surprisingly their is a difference.

DS has always been a spitty baby. Sometimes he'll just be sitting and it will just come out. Just dribble down his face and all over his clothes

Here are some tricks that seem to work for us, we hold him at a 45 degree angle when he eats, burp him after every 2 ounces, and make sure he's not taking in too much too fast.

When DS had a cold he actually projectiled. First time ever. And by projectile it went about 1 foot.

He may have just taken in too much air. If it continues to happen or it actually gets distance call the pediatrician. You will want to make sure he is gaining weight and true projecticle can be a sign of reflux.

Your DC may have reflux. My DD has done this several times, and we have many issues related to reflux. See if it happens again...if so talk to pedi Did you by any chance just give DC a vaccination? This always happens after getting DD vaccinated...

He has been drinking 6 oz for the past 2 weeks.

My DD used to do that, if she had a lot of gas and was pushing/bearing down. If it keeps happening, just go get checked by your ped but it's most likely nothing.

My DS did that as well. He did it a total of 5 times. DS got some major distance with his spit up and it would get all over me, all over him, and all over whatever we were sitting on. I wasn't sure how I was supposed to take him out in public and feed him if he would spit up like that. So, I mentioned it to the dr. and he said it was reflux and to start putting cereal in his bottles. This helped make the formula thicker and, therefore, easier to keep down in his belly. Ever since we did that, he hasn't spit up at all! He is 6 months old now. We don't give him the cereal in the bottles anymore b/c he gets it off the spoon, but it worked like a charm when we put the cereal in the bottles.

Talk to your ped. It dosent necessarily mean it is reflux but it's worth a conversation if it makes you feel better.
