18-month old losing balance?
Yesterday I picked up my DS from daycare and he had a big bruise on the right side of his face. His main teacher had left early and I had her call me today to discuss what happened. She said that he had lost his balance and kind fell in his face. Totally makes sense, these things happen.
The thing that gave me pause for concern was that she said that he seemed to be falling a lot recently. Like one minute he'll be running all over, the next every two steps it seems like he's going down. This weird feeling came over me as I had also kind of noticed it... like walking into school some mornings I'll be holding his hand and it seems like we can't even get down the hallway without him tripping or falling down every little bit. I tried to brush it off like kids fall sometimes, they're clumsy, not looking where he's going, but I'm starting to wonder if it's something more.
Any insight? Worth a trip to the ped?

I would skip the ped and see a pediatric neurologist. If anything for peace of mind.

Is it possible that it could be an ear infection? My DD's sense of balance is always off when she has an ear infection.

I would start with the ped so they can help you narrow down the cause. Could be one of the reasons mentioned above, I've seen it mentioned from parents of toddlers with hip dysplasia, could just be toddler silliness.

I was thinking being a toddler. Likes he's going to fast for himself and trips up. Not paying attention to what's he's doing kinda thing. But I think if you feel uneasy about it then get him checked out.
Do his feet turn in at all? Are they new shoes? Chunky shoes? Maybe shoes are to small? Just stuff I would consider and think about

Tripping is also a sign of small shoes. I'd make sure he's wearing the appropriate size shoes.

This is all good feedback, it's honesrly all crossed my mind! The ear infection thought, him just being silly and playing around, something with his shoes. He did have turned in feet as a baby that I had checked out when he was around 6 months old but they've straightened out over time and between 11-12 months he took off walking and hasn't really looked back so I figured that issue sorted itself out
I feel like everything's probably fine, but I couldn't help but feel like what if there is something more to it and I'm just writing it off as normal toddler stuff?

Could also be eye sight...might need glasses. Definitely worth a trip to ped.

This was my first thought.
Also at 18 months they are so easily distracted.
I would personally check the shoes and then watch and see if he was actually loosing his balance, or just getting distracted. If the simple things check out, then I'd see the doctor.

Did he get his MMR recently?
My DD fell a ton after her MMR, the Ped said one side affect is joint pain/stiffness.

He might need glasses. My 3 year old just got glasses and it never crossed my mind he couldn't see well out of one eye.
