Wait, do they still sell sweatpants? Maybe I live under a rock . . . Chat Icon

Does she mean yoga pants? What else are you supposed to wear around the house? A gown? Jeans? Lingerie?

I don't wear sweat pants or yoga pants. I usually change into jeans when I come home from work.

Ahh. I don't find jeans to be comfortable so I take them off as soon as I get home. I lounge in yoga pants. I can't imagine hanging out at home in jeans (unless we're having company) but whatever you're comfortable in.

It's probably b/c I'm wearing tights most of the time when I am out of the house, so jeans are a step down. My loungey jeans are old & in my fat size so they are worn in & comfy. I haven been know to change into them from regular jeans if I was wearing them out.

The bra comes off & the old t-shirt goes on as soon as I come home.

I do wonder though about the people who were pajamas in public? What is their step down to lounge around it? Nakedness?

Eh, I think this was just a silly comment she made, probably a joke, and the media rolled with it. Slow news day on the celebrity front and all that.

That said, I wouldnt take marriage advice (could you call this "advice"?) from...someone who hasn't been married.

I agree.

Whatever, I'll wear what I want. If my husband doesn't like it, then he can leave.

ETA: I really dislike saying "keeping my man happy". I mean we work together toward our goals. No one keeps others happy.

ITA, i mean obviously she cannot relate to the average woman, just like Gwenyth Paltrow with her mothering comments.

I'll stop wearing sweats and have hair and make up done 24/7 the minute i have a stylist, trainer, assistant and no job. Chat Icon

well, I do think wearing sweatpants makes it easy to let go, not take care of ourselves and even gain wt. I am not saying it leads to divorce but I do think it has some truth, in that, it make one feel "lazy' about self.
I know from experience, so this is my opinion.

I agree. While I would never take marriage advice from a celebrity, I think the point she may have been trying to make isn't necessarily a bad one (though the delivery was awful). It seemed like she was trying to say that people need to make an effort in their relationships, but this shouldn't just apply to women and shouldn't just apply to clothing.

She made a gross generalization that clearly doesn't apply to everyone. However, I think some men and women may be bothered when their spouse lets himself or herself go and stops caring about his or her appearance. I also think it's easy to gain weight after having children and put them first above yourself and/or your spouse. Carrying extra baby weight can certainly make you not feel as good about yourself and that can spill over into other issues such as sex and intimacy. There are other relationships where these things don't matter at all.

Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing to make an effort to look nice especially when outside the house. I think doing that is more for yourself though than for anything or anyone else. Yoga pants and sweats can also look really good on some people. I love lounging around in yoga pants, sweatpants and pajamas after a long day at work. However, I definitely feel better about myself when I leave the house in something other than that. We're all different and what works for one person or relationship may not work for another.

I kind of agree with this. I think her delivery was awful though. She was probably trying to equate the fact that sweat pants represents frumpiness and not caring about your appearance.

As much as we want to be all liberal and I am woman hear my roar, it doesn't change the fact that most men are visual creatures. They appreciate a woman who keeps herself up. Of course not all the time but a majority of the time. You can try to sugar coat it 100 ways to Sunday but it's the truth.

FTR: I love my fitted sweatpants and do wear them occasionally for quick errands but I try to also dress nicer most of the time and throw on some make up, shave, etc. Of course not all the time but at least 75% of the time. I know my DH appreciates it just like I appreciate it that he takes the time to cut his hair, shave, look presentable.

I'm not all about appearances but I do accept the fact that looks DO matter no matter what people try to say. I think this generation is much more casual compared to previous generations and it's not always a good thing.

To each his own though.

ETA: I see people mentioning gaining weight. I don't think that's always necessarily a huge factor in frumpiness..IMO you can be any size and wear it well it's all how you put it together. I have an aunt who was always plus size but always looked beautiful. Hair, makeup, clothes always on point and no one would have ever dreamed of accusing her of being a sweatpants wife Chat Icon

Exactly!

I would think those turbans she wears would be a mood killer for sure. LOL!

I also realize she said it in jest and it was nothing more than a joke.
