scared of bedtime

DD has been an amazing sleeper since 3 months old. She's 3 1/2. The past few nights she's been having a fit at bedtime, saying she's scared. Nothing in her room has changed. She's also waking up in the middle of the night screaming. I hold her for a few minutes and try to get her back to sleep. I don't want her to sleep in our room. Any suggestions? Im exhausted!

Lights on. My DS sleeps with his light on and I just leave it. He tells me he is scared of the dark.

Re: scared of bedtime

We added a night light, which I'm not thrilled about...seems to have helped last night.

We tried the night light and it still was not working so I just went to the regular light.

Does she say what she is afraid of? Maybe once you pin point it you can remedy the problem? This stinks!!! :(

Re: scared of bedtime

OMG we are going through the same thing. my son is 3.5yo and was a great sleeper until last week. One night he was giving us such a hard time he literally fell asleep in the hallway! He is giving us a hard time going to sleep but is fine through the night.

HE says he is afraid of his crib, afraid of the dark, today he said he was afraid of the shower! I know its the age as my older son went through this but it was much less dramatic!

my daughter did that at around the same age, we did get a night light and also sprayed "monster spray" all over her room - it was a bottle of febreeze that I have covered with a paper bag and wrote monster spray on it, that helped

my DS went through a phase of this starting around that age. now he's almost 5 and it rarely happens. i used to be hard on with with wanting a night light cause i didnt understand why he needed it! he slept since day 1 in total darkness. but it was a phase. eventually he didnt need it anymore. now it sits next to his bed and he'll put it on once in awhile if he needs it and i dont give him a hard time.
